In snooker, there is a series of tournaments, and world rating, too. But the most important one, World Championship, is way older than others. This is also tournament with highest prize, and (correct me if I am wrong) there is no annual free WL tournament with higher coin prize than Fleece's. So I think World Championship is fitting name.
Just my 5 cents.

Ok, but the snooker is not enough good example, because there are the same snooker tables and balls on every tournament while in Warlight there are many popular templates so a World Champion title can't be decided playing only on one template. This is why tennis is better example because the more surfaces.

And one more thing. in the chess there is a World Cup which is similar format than this (single elimination though, but more games in the final), but that competition is not nearly as important than the Chess World Championship (which are more difficult than the Cup!).

So ok, Fleece's format can be the Warlight World Cup :D

And it can't be a "World Cup" we have had this descision before... There is no cup!!!

The idea was to model it on Snooker, it's the only open tournament that exists to my knowledge that's free entry and contains a prize.

Honestly, if someone created a rival/better open tournament then I would probably take it down a notch or hand over the title to them.

The Snooker World Championship is a single elimination tournament, in Tennis, Wimbledon is considered like a World championship as it's the biggest. I'm not saying the winner of this is the best player in the world ever right now in every aspect of the game (and you would be stupid if that's what you thought, people even know that Federer is better on different surfaces)

I'm just saying it's a tournament that's open to everyone, the world even... Maybe I should call it the "Warlight Open tournament" but then what will take the World Championship title? Are we just not going to have one? If there is more than 1 then I would understand...

Yes, I could make it with no prize, is that something you would prefer?

Edit: Also that would make it dirt cheap to run, most of the cost was the prize

Tbh, I just made it to have some fun and give the comunity something to discuss, perhaps it would be best to leave it at that and not hold another one.

This is your tournament, you pay it's price so you can give any name to it what you want :P

Btw the champions usually get a cup too :P
And in the football (but in chess too) a championship is a longer competition while the cup is a shorter, simpler one (but both winner will have a cup :P ), this is why I only proposed the World Cup name.

But, as I wrote this is your tourney, you have the right to name it.
And I still have a good chance to win it, and sounds better that I can be the World Champions than win the World Cup :D

Ok, due to all the feedback recieved I have removed the medals and will not be hosting another tournament.
