Just a quick note, Bermuda would come second on that list if included. Yes, a small British island in the middle of the Atlantic is richer than every US state and European country.
Funny thread Knyte (I guess it was mostly done on trolling purpose ;) ), but let's be honest about it, what does GDP per capita truly mean? If 1% of the people own 90% of the total wealth of said country, that does not necessarily mean people are "richer" than the ones living in more egalitarian societies.
GDP is actually a very misused indicator which proves really nothing, I would take more attention on Human Development Index (HDI) or the even more accurate IHDI (inequality-adjusted human development index), which at least includes inequality (inequality in the distribution of wealth), lifespan, education, the GDP per capita, the fertility rate and the inflation rate.
And according to this more relevant indicator, in 2015 the US are only 27th (lost 11 ranks in 5 years! Same ratio as Greece congrats!), well after most of the European States such as Norway (1st), Netherlands, Switzerland, Germany, France, UK but even Spain, Italy and Hungary!

I live in Denmark, my income as a student is equivalent to 885 USD per month, among the 10% lowest in this country, and I don't need more than this. Couldn't care less about the income per capita there, which by the way completely neglects the distribution of it. I would never want to live there.
