People most certainly want centralization of power. Its evident in the emphasis placed upon the elections of heads of state each yr in various western nations.

They want a authoritarian (economically and socially) leader, yes, but not a lack of elections.

Most people have misgivings about the electoral process and would most certainly sacrifice it for accountability

The majority of folk that do have these misgivings, oppose a lack of democracy, and want more of it. Look at all the Sandroids/Bern victims. They all call themselves Democratic Socialists, and want more of it along with free stuff.

Also, governments will never be truly accountable, as they get their money either way. If statists think the majority of folk will pay if their government is good, and want to fix it, that's where they should go. Making taxation optional.
