Honestly, I think your default should be to start out at five stars and take away stars for specific problems you have with a map

Nothing wrong with a map is not the same as a map being "amazing". Nothing wrong with a map can fit in 2/5 stars.

right. Maps dont start out as 'amazing' and work their way down problem by problem. They start in the middle.

I might be wrong: but the only way to rate a map is to play on it, right? So at some point you're blocked, since few people play on said maps.

To copy myself from the first page (it is a good idea to read thread before posting):

Some of unrated maps are simply bad. But I found way to rate map without wasting open game slot and waiting till it fill - start a new single player game and surrender.

It allows to rate map and AFAIK it is not affecting statistics.

It is useful only for clearly horrible maps.

You need to find the map id, which can typically be found in the url and place it at the end of https://www.warlight.net/RateMap?ID=

For example: https://www.warlight.net/Map/73-Europe
-> https://www.warlight.net/RateMap?ID=73

I'm liking making smaller simple maps. I have way too many unfinished ones.

The most simple solution to this problem is making it possible to vote on the map page. Nothing more, nothing less (yes, i get the whole u gotta play it to know it thing, but still, makes more harm to than it does good in my opinion).
