The problem doesn't have to do with us "not understanding jokes". It actually is that men can't make up good jokes. Sorry to burst your bubbles, guys, but if the intention of this thread was to make us laugh, its quality is so much below zero that we can't even laugh at it... Make up a decent joke and then we 'll talk.

Actually that is the point of the joke, it's so bad it's funny. Watch this joke:

It's a very bad physics joke, but the fact that you get why it's so bad makes you laugh. People from Poland would immediately understand, what a Strasburger's joke would be, just that kind. It's bad, stereotypical, has no surprise ending or twist, just oure stupidity and enjoyment;)
Also responding to my dear angel, I actually don't think it'd matter if that post was about race, I actually love racist jokes and black humour. That alone of course does not prove I am a racist (which I am not). If someone starts a thread about jokes, I promise I'll contribute;)

"Strasburger's joke" might be funny in a way you described even though they are anything but brilliant, but only if they are not mean, derogatory. Racist jokes and black humor might be funny even though they are mean, derogatory but only if they are brilliant and witty.

If you make a racist (sexist,derogatory) joke and it's not witty but lame, you have nothing to hide the "meaniness", the hurtful element of it. You are not witty - you are mean!

Take those two jokes, they have the same idea behind it, but first is not witty while the second is ( my opinion ):

1."i hope fizzer will soon make a better version for girls ...{ having pink theme } with Barbie doll maps ...."
2."Maybe instead of starting with 5 armies on each territory it could be that you start with 4 armies on each territory ánd one Barbie doll. That would definitely attract a lot of girls."
If this thread consisted of only jokes of the second kind I think the protests would be a lot weaker.


Generally I think that sexist jokes are lame and I understand that at least some of the girls feel offended. I would feel the same if this thread was about Polish jokes - most of them are lame , some are really mean, never want to hear more than one at a time and even though I have pretty thick skin, I would have felt obligated to confront the perpetrators .

Myself, I like risky jokes but if someone feels offended, even if I don't understand why, I do apologize and hopefully thats that. But I never try to talk sense into person that was the butt of the joke : "NO,No listen , I called you a slave and its funny because your granddad was a slave. You just don't understand jokes, especially satirical jokes ."

So, what you're saying is that this wouldn't be the best time to whip out the old classic Napoleon quote: "Women are nothing but machines for producing children"? Understood. Understood. I'll keep that one under wraps until a more suitable time presents itself.

Agreed. It just takes looking at things from a perspective that isn't your own. If you've ever been offended by something where others might not understand why you were offended, then it's easy to understand how someone else could be offended by a joke you found harmless. And on a semi-related note, I do think people in general get offended too easily over things, but perhaps I have a biased perspective on that.

Also, I have the sad feeling that a lot of the "jokes" in this thread weren't actually jokes, but anyway...

It's nice to see a 'fun' thread that isn't about complaining or bugs, or other serious business. Nice that I could actually detect sarcasm in this thread, something VERY hard to do on the internet.

There are actually some good looking girls on warlight that are goo.... er.... not half bad players. :P Now whos to say there not 40 year old, hairy, fat dudes..... idk. but ive seen some nice pictures on decent players :)

What all the girls on this thread are forgetting completely is that.. there *are* no girls on the internet.. once you login you are no longer female.. you're not male either.. you are now an electronic identity and your sexual organs have no part with that identity unless you force them onto it.. Imho the funniest thing about the *there are no girls on the internet* jokes is that people take them so wrong.. as the above is the premise behind it, in my eyes.

I'll accept anyone for what they want to be viewed as.. even if they aren't it IRL, It is really irrelevant.. if Impaller was a girl, I'd still view it as just Impaller, and would likely forget unless me and him/her ended up having regular discussions regarding things that go beyond his/her online identity.

and hopefully that makes sense, since as Duke can tell you, once I get onto an idea, I start to ramble and my thoughts tend to jump...

@ [WM] Szeweningen: Jokes are a matter of opinion. I see no point in bad jokes, so I tend to criticise them rather than laugh with them. Each person is different, not all people think as you 'd like them to. A good joke doesn't make people look like they didn't understand it. A good joke makes people laugh, doesn't make them look dazzled. Otherwise it's not a joke. This doesn't mean that it's serious though, so it frankly is a line of... well, I won't use abusive language. I think you got what I was going to type.

@ Perrin3088: That's just a matter of point of view. Even online, I look at people as they are (or claim to be, this actually makes no difference to me). We are not our genes, we are not our body. We are our personality, our ideas, our behaviour, this is what we are IMO. I understand though that each person has different opinions. Variety is what makes life nice, and as I see it, your point of view here seems to ignore this variety, as you frankly say that you look at online people as if we were bots. I am a very temperamented person, I don't exactly like the fact that someone out there sees me as a bot. You know, if we were bots, our behaviour would be identical. But you see, each one types different things, so from my point of view we are not bots. I don't care who agrees and who doesn't, I am just stating my opinion and expecting people to respect it, just as I respect that other people may disagree with this. My intention has nothing to do with changing anyone's mind. I only want people to respect me a little bit. Life without respect would be cruel.
