Technologies and a return to feudalism: 2/6/2017 11:43:04

I believe new technologies will ultimately result in destruction of freedom of all but the strongest, richest and smartest. Feudalism will be the result when the public can no longer resist a brutal and well-armed techno-economic-military elite.

Discuss.

An alliance of the three elites (political-military, economic and scientific-technological) can be so strong in the future that the rest of humanity can hardly resist the Triple Alliance which can easily exterminate people at will. A single individual with a private army of robots might be able to tightly control a region. Weapons of mass destruction such as neutron bombs and biological weapons can be applied to exterminate anyone who lives where dissent exists. Production from others is largely unnecessary hence the elite can afford to casually commit mass murders for no reason other than being bored and still get away with it since nobody can arrest a well-armed dictator.

The main hope most humans have is competition among elites. To stop a brutal part of the elite you need support from other factions of it.

Large societies may remain intact. However it will be easy to invade small nations. The key is that if nobody will defend a nation properly (for example to protect its resources) it will be destroyed. Hence small private juntas can not exist in resource-rich places. Instead we can expect powerful companies to de facto control them.

The most dangerous thing here is personal dictatorship. A group of elites is rational and hence relatively predictable while a single elite is usually not. A single control freak might be able to control a population if it is a place more powerful people don't care about.

Technology shouldn't advance too far, it would replace a ton of jobs.

+ getting advanced too far could create unintended consequences like technology overtaking humans.

^^No, there is no way to restrict anything. Technology will rise. The issue is how humans can also improve and keep up with it, not whether it should advance (it should. Even if it shouldn't it will).

IA/transhumanism is better than AI. With IA humans can also be at least on par with machines and will not be destroyed by AI.

One key issue IRL is that no amount of regulation can truly completely remove anything. Hence whatever that is possible to happen does happen.

Less procrastination. More blogposts. People here aren't interested in rational and serious discussions too much, but all your blogreaders are!
