I'm making a separate comment because it's specific to what I'm struggling with right now:

"Some bonuses are better than others"

So-- first I go by the sheer size of the bonus--size of the points you get-- but then I try to guess which bonuses are easier to hold, and I seem to be a very bad guesser about that-- the size of the territory you need to get, that matters, and how fast you can take it, but then it seems like I always mess up on the part where I try to pick bonuses that I can expand to other good bonuses from. what usually happens is I can take two different bonus sets in Africa, but then get torn up and kicked out of Africa. if I was lucky and had Antarctica or South America, I can migrate out towards N. Amer. or Aust.

But I can't take over Africa all that well or fast as I'd like to yet. I mean I get it sometimes, but it hasn't ''clicked'' yet like the way I know to take over S. Amer. and keep it good.

Is Greenland any good? it's not like the Central Asia bonuses, it's got fewer entry points to defend....but it still is just connected enough I have trouble getting it to work, and it's big and time consuming to take. it's a bit like North America on the classic table map. What are people's tips for Asia for the 8th Tutorial Map? That's important to figure out.

Usually, on most of the maps, you should have at least one bonus at the end of turn 2.

1vs2(2 AI team), than 1vs3, maybe 2vs5 (team with AI), and then 1vs4, will do competitive games against AI for single player use. 1vs5 is probably too hard, but not impossible to win.

1vs2 (2 AI team) means that you can set the single player game and pick 2 AI in the same team against yourself (newbie). If you win that one with easy, you can put next level, putting 3 AI in the team against you. Next you should play alongside one AI in the same team against 5 AI (2vs5).

If you win 70% of games where you fight alone against 4 AI in the same team, you are battle ready (ready for multiplayer competition).

But, all these knowledge taken as above games can be futile if you don't try manual distribution and wastelands.

Fizzer seems to be dedicating his work to unity, the best thing for newbies anytime soon is for someone to create an up to date guide. Norman's guide and the GG guide are pretty good from what I remember, but they're pretty old and must be missing a few things.

@MJF Certain bonuses are normally better than others, but you can't just always pick them because it depends on the board (where the wastelands and warlords are).

If you want to understand how to pick better, then play auto games on strat MME 1v1. Easiest way to pick you could be:

- Look for any first turn bonuses (ftb's), these are normally the 3 bonuses like Central America and Antarctica.

- How efficient the bonus is, since bonuses of the same value have a different number of territories (like Canada and greenland)

- Bonuses which can be completed quickly from their warlord, and then has suitable bonuses to expand into nearby.

In my opinion, further honing of SP levels don't make sense, as they teach how to play against AI, not humans, and unless you become SP specialist (like Nathan), you will struggle when beginning with MP because techniques you are used to from playing AI's no longer work. "Real" play is just that different. For teaching basics of how WL work, first several SP levels are more than enough, and with adding things like even more armies and AI's and ridiculous units like bosses, the most of SP levels are quite obsolete. I found myself bored playing them very quickly, as this is the same thing repeated again just on different maps and with slightly different conditions.
What newbies need is a kind of tutoring on things like picking, efficient expanding, how to use delay moves, exploiting multiborders, understanding which kind of territories is more important than others, proper use of cards in strategic play - this kind of stuff. Otherwise I can imagine how quicly one can be discouraged when meeting at least mediocre player, who will outperform him easily just by using ordinary and automated basic strategy skills. MH and GG guides should be linked directly (and distinctly) from MP page and there should be tutoring "levels" based on them available. Also, better encouraging of direct access to forums is desirable, as they are source of important information in many ways. I met long-time players who had no idea that there are things like various strategy templates aside of MME they were used to and claimed that there is no point in improving 1v1 play, as majority of games are with many players anyway ;)

I appreciate all the suggestions!

There are a lot of different types of people who play WarLight. Some play multi-player competitively, some just play FFAs, some just play diplomacy games / role playing games, some just play the single player campaign, some just play single player community levels, and some just play multi-player games with their friends and never venture out into the community.

they should learn how to pick territories for example. How the cycle works. how to deploy efficiently. I thought the tutorial could be like the levels of a manual of chess, where you have to checkmate in a set number of moves.

These are all great things to teach a player who is focused on playing competitively. But as explained above, that's not every player's goal. The single player campaign attempts to strike a balance in teaching players of all goals, while still being fun.

If someone is interested in making a series of tutorial levels specific to teaching players to be comptitive, I think it would be a great addition to the single-player campaign as kind of a "side track" or something.

Maybe there should be auto-generated multi-player games for exclusively lower-level players?

There is one already -- there's a multi-player "newbie game" that only shows up for new accounts. Of course, more could be done in making this better, and we do have a plan post-Unity for easing new players into multi-player.

Giving a notification when you disable the begin button the first time might fix that already

In the new Unity client, the "don't show this again" box won't even be there on the NLC begin dialog. That box is really a newbie trap anyway and probably shouldn't have existed. If you really want to turn it off you can still do so on the Settings tab but I wouldn't advise it.

Lottery games should be part of the tutorial as well. (Btw u forgot lottery players as a type of player that exists) it took me awhile to learn and master lottery but now i win every game.i had to get a mentor for that. New players should be able to learn without that. In the tutorial or single player.

Its just an FFA. i feel there should be an automated 1v1 and 2v2 and possibly even a 3v3 for newbies only.

I beat level 8.

On the one hand, I refuse to quit, I love this game!

On the other hand, this ''Boss'' thing has a 'rep, roflmao.

I suppose I'm not going to have hope again until I get a PT for this game....rofl.

Sometime before Marvel Phase 4 ends, I assume I will have looked up a really good step by step cheat sheet for the Boss....
