Haven't had new games pop for a while...

it tries to match people up a certain way. i waited a long time too. for some reason it didn't match me up with you. instead it waited to give me a match with mian (who lost a game after you finished your last one).

I just had a game created for me at 7 Eastern after finishing my previous game at 6:30 or so.

my impression:

1. guys rated within 150-250 get games with each other
2. but this depends on
- first priority: how many games each person is playing (guys with 1 game have a different priority than guys with 2-5?)
- second priority: who finishes their games first (there is a waiting list for who plays whom)

otherwise, why else was i not set to play you?

but how the first priority works is a mystery...

i think there is also a special rule: anytime yuanshuai has a chance to play mian, all other rules go out the window

That was to Yuanshuai btw. So 1/2 hr for you RS, interesting, een a couple hours for me. Maybe I'm just unmatchable :O

Odd thing I have seen is getting a string of games against higher players (I'm 1450-1480 so I'd see 1600 and 1700s) for 4-5 games and then get 4-5 lower (1200-1300) in a row.

I'd expect it to be more balanced but probably just a statistical oddity.

Basically, you don't get any games because you have played most people in your range too often already and the algorithm waits for a player to be available that you haven't played often yet (during the 3 months that count).

From the link you posted:

"For each player, WarLight constructs a list of potential opponents. We start by populating the list with everyone within 30% of you on the ladder or 10 players/teams on either side. For example, if the ladder has 100 players in it, we would look at the 30 players with better ratings than you and the 30 players with worse ratings than you (the game creation algorithm only sorts by rating - it ignores rank)."

I'm not sure what this means. Say, there are 100 players, my rank is #5 and my rating is 2000 (it isn't, but for simplicity ;) ). Will it look down 30 ranks (to #35) or down 30% in rating (to 1400 for me - but 1539 in practice since it must match both ways)?

My guess is that it does take the 30 people with closest rating in each direction, but ignores whether a player actually has a rank or not, but that might be a too liberal interpretation of the text. Anyone knows the right answer?

hmm.. am curious if it counts people that are not currently ranked, but are also not signed to play in the ladder...
say you are 1500, and there are a bunch of inactives between 1450-1550, would those count towards your possible player limitations, despite those players not actually contributing to the total pool of available games anymore?
