A chess clock is the most simple thing ever. One person makes a turn, and their clock stops. Other clock starts. After the turn, that clock stops and the other stops. Each player gets x minutes. No crazy supplement systems necessary. Players with more pieces or more complex situations get no "bonus time," as the clock should have enough time to play a full game with these situations.

So how about just keeping it simple? You get x minutes to play this game. The reason people's ideas are rarely used is because you all make them way too complicated. Clock goes when you are moving, clock stops when you finish. Players with more territories do not get anything special in terms of timing, because the clock should have reasonable time to play a full game.

@emose:

I play chess and will decribe tournamet timer based on my expirience, it is very simple. In chess it is usall to have a base time for reaching 40 moves (move 40 have to be played/commitet). 2 houers for 40 moves is simple to use (in chess, warlight maby need more/less time).
I name that clock variaton "tournament time" (probly not real name)
a) in the start you can give each player 2 houers, when they reach 40 moves they get (for example) 30 min to the rest of the game. This way the player can use his/her time at will
B) other ways to use this is f.eks 1,5h at start and 30sec per move. for the rest of the game. time choosen by crator;)
C) it can to be a god idea to give players (f.eks) 5-30 min on the whole game. this way the game won`t be laesting forever.

hope you understand:)

Houerglass can ony be used in duel (1v1) it culd been usfull in 2v2 (etc) but then the wohle team will need to sheare the same clock (clock stops when team have commited orders) and get booted togheter. that would be a problem in larger gams (12v12)if the hole team lose due to one player....

I agree on sudden death, to make the game more even booted players culd turn to AI (decided by game crater).

However a large problem culd be the idea be to complex (xDerivative) so I suppose the simplest is the best! I think fizzer (if he will ever invent this) think so to;)

btw: have this idea been suggested on UV?

sry for bad english....

xDerivative: I think most of us understand that overcomplicating an idea makes it impossible to implement. However, WarLight is not Chess. Chess has a single set of rules, a single board for pieces to move on, and the pieces present on both sides are always the exact same at the start of every game. Even if you ignore all but a single combination of map & settings on WarLight, WarLight's turns are executed in a manner that is fundamentally different from turns in Chess. Because of this, there is no easy way to cut & paste an absolute clock in a way that is *fair to **all** players in **all** games*, at least prior to reaching the potentially misusing hands of game creators.

Hennns: Thanks for the explanation, and that type of timing does seem to be the one of choice. I would like to see a single idea that most thread participants agree on prior to anyone posting this on UserVoice.

Personally I would also like to know what Fizzer thinks of it - I don't see this having a chance at being implemented if he's not specifically interested.

xDerivative, warlight is also about allowing players to customize their matches, as opposed to trying to have things limited.. Fizzer has tried very hard to allow us to make each match as individualized as possible, and the idea of a chess clock has already been established in the initial posts.. that Idea is out there, if Fizzer decides to use it, then I am all for it. That, However, should not prevent us to continue brainstorming other methods of quick-match clocks that may or may not be more suitable for the situation, and particularly, one that would match as many possible situations as possible..
the main problem *any* of these solutions have is refresh time..
I recomended X time + Y Bonus time primarily to give a refresh time.. but then to not give too strong an advantage to the person just sitting there spamming the refresh button.. not Ideal Ofc' but this kind of clock, using a flash system in the way that WL does, will never be Ideal, and changing how matches are displayed only for a select few games would definitely not be worth Fizzers time, Imho.

Since I know that Fizzer overlooks a vast majority of the forums, I use these sort of threads to discuss the possible positives and negatives of each idea presented, and to present ideas that might also have positive and negative effects in the playstyle, and then let Fizzer decide what he thinks is best... in this way IMHO these forums are better then UV, since so many more opinions frequent here.

ive got to agree with xderivative. for example, the only reason we have the terrible system of booted players being turned over to the ai in team games, which ruins so many games (especially when people refuse to vote to end), is because all the solutions people have been provided, almost any of which would be a vast improvement, have been criticised over problems that might occur in rare circumstances. (as well as there being 10 solutions to each problem, so that no consensus can be reached.)
