Normally I wouldn't make a post like this, but the events in this game seem particularly egregious, and this new player needs to understand the etiquette of the game. Or maybe I just want everyone to know what a douchebag this guy is... Probably the latter. Anyway, here's the link: http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer.aspx?GameID=1977864. Please consider adding this guy to your blacklist.

Please, elaborate. We can't see what guy is a douchebag, what he has done, in what turn he did it...

That's what the link to the game is for. He booted a few seconds into the expiration of the timer. Time bank was on, I was taking my turns in a timely fashion, deep into a very competitive game... All the elements where one who competes fairly should NOT be booting.

What turn did he boot you in? Who is "he"?

Another boot to win thread... I've blacklisted the guy, but your thread makes it seems like he did something completely heinous lol. Don't get me wrong, what he did was awful sportsmanship, but you overdramatize just another boot to win.

Bishes, yes, I agree, just another boot to win, but the game had been a real tilt up to that point. And to be honest, he may have gained the upper hand. Anyway, just another douchebag booting to win.

So, why post? If everyone was going to post the names of "douchebags" in separate forum threads, not only would it lead to a trollfest of calling out people who may or may not have done something unfair, it will simply make the forum full of spam.

Blacklist and move on. He was quite clearly in his allowed capability to boot. I'm not going to judge you for blacklisting, but I'm certainly judging you for telling others to blacklist as well.

This may not go down well with many players, but personally I think if a player cannot make his moves in the time allocated then they have only themselves to blame. I have been booted many times when I had connection problems or was playing too many real time games at same time and couldn't keep up. Whatever the reason I don't blame others for booting me. They might be only playing the one game and bored senseless waiting on you.

There are exceptions. I rarely boot if the game is very good standard and impossible to say who has upperhand. I love them games. Also if someone requests a wait who is usually prompt with their turns I am OK with that, but players who go overtime regular I always boot, and noobs too so they learn not to. Games are much better when players play at speed and booting players will help get them up to speed.

One last thing, I'm sure a few of us have booted a player when we were getting smashed. Not nice for the opponent I know, but always brings a wry smile lol.

I fully agree, and you are less to blame than the blacklisters. You are fully in your allowed capability to boot, as those are the rules implemented by the developer himself. That there are certain "unwritten rules" kind of already implies arbitrary restrictions are going on. You are also fully in your allowed capability to blacklist. What this means is that you do not want to play with this person. This does not restrict them, only you. No problem there. The problem I have with players is when they go all "this person is so bad! Blacklist him like I did!". Personally, I don't boot much. A lot of multi-day games I play have autoboot set at the same time as the other boots, so nobody's to blame but yourself (which kind of points out the arbitrary decision in blacklisting booters, since you could swear the chat as well and blacklist the host when you get autobooted). However, I do boot if you miss your turn in multi-day games. You've got epochs of time to take your turn, don't go pretending you have a "life". In real-time games I boot a few minutes after the allowed boot time. It's the amount of time you've read in the game description, so if you're not following it you're going to be booted. Crying and blacklisting just because not everyone works according to your wishes is just pathetic.

With that said, the longer the game is already playing, the better you are and the more kindness and profession you show in playing, the less I will want to boot you. If you go over the boot time once while normally playing quickly, I wait. Going over it twice without feeling the person is losing or intentionally pissing others off, no problems. It is at times you see a player clearly lost and suddenly takes well beyond the booting time I will boot without remorse.

Also, this recent game I played is a very good example I just need to add here. It was a 20 FFA called "very powerful cards" where it already lasted 70+ turns (it's quadruple earth). Every card is made extremely powerful, but takes a long time to earn. We were down to four players. The others were all in a truce with me, so I opted to attack one (warnings beforehand). The first one was fine with it, and eventually I eliminated him. I informed the second more than enough turns beforehand he'll be my next target. The moment I eliminated the first, the third was almost entirely dead fighting the second and I thought it would be very strategic to attack the second. He was threatening to use his diplomacy on me meaning it would take 50 turns of waiting until we could battle again. He also took his turn back and went beyond the vote-to-boot time while playing in his other multiplayer games. Made me kind of pissed so I voted to boot (the other guy already did), to prevent having to wait probably another 100 days until the game is over. I was somewhat equal to this player, but the third weared him down and still had an army of a few hundred which could rampage through his territories. I normally don't boot to win, but in this case I booted to prevent my win from lasting another 100 days.

I guess that was more of a personal rant, but it could also point out there are very valid reasons to boot, especially if they don't meet your own standards. It's fine if you blacklist them, because you can also blacklist with the reason they have black bunnies with scissor paws on their shirts. Just don't pretend they're objective rules and others should blacklist them as well.
