Great job! I don't normally playtest, but I'd playtest this!

Anyone online at the moment or in the next couple of hours who'd like to test this one?

I am now, but because of those different time zones I have no idea how many hours ago you posted that question.

Well, you're a little too late but I'll inform here when I'm able to test again.

I made a couple changes to the map. I added the island of Ulleung to the right which you can use to attack Dancon in the North or Pohang in the south. The Island belongs to South Korea in reality but I made it "neutral" so it won't affect any bonuses and you don't get a bonus for it either. Also on the left side of the map I made a change so you can attack from Seosang to Kangryong and vice versa.

I made these changes so the games wouldn't be so straightforward and there would be different tactics to use.

You can compare the maps.

What do you think? Should the attacking points from ulleung be somewhere else?

Excellent addition with the island. I like that it is neutral (could even make it a negative bonus) as it adds so much to the strategy required. The connected attack points seem reasonable to me... at their flank but not completely in their rear either. Puts bonuses of comparable strength in danger so maintains the balance.

I gotta ask though... is this a second account for you? Just seems odd to create an account, not play any multi-player games and create a map.

are there any real-life connections between that island and the main part of the island? otherwise i think its good as it is.

there are some points at which 4 territories connect, for example in the southeast, pohang, daegu, miryang and ulsan. if you click on ulsan and then daegu, you can see that the borders overlap, but the territories do not connect. if you could redraw the territories around points like these so that its obvious which territories do not connect, i think the map would be more playable.

To Richard Sharpe

This is my first account. I found this game about a month ago and I've only played the single player mode and custom games against AI's before creating an account. Because no-one had made a map of the Korean Peninsula and it was possible for users to create their own maps I wanted to give it a shot.

I actually find it odd that no-one had made this map for the fact that there's actually a real threat of these two countries going to war. There has been a threat ever since the ending of Korean war. I'm not korean myself but I find the whole situation and both countries very interesting. So much actually that I took a trip last October to South Korea. Visited Seoul, Busan and ofcourse the De-Militarized Zone.

According to google maps there's a ship route to donghae from Pohang and from Donghae. Pohang is the connection point I chose. There's no connection to the north because the north is a communist country and they have closed their borders completely so I just made a random connection to the north.

For the issue you mentioned about territories not connecting. I redraw all those areas that I found problems in and made new connections.

You can view the changes here

I can't edit my message. I meant that there's a connection to the island of Ulleung from Donghae and from Pohang.

Anyway, I have a few hours to test the map right now if someone wants to play.

Thanks to Muppet for testing the map.

He noticed that it takes more time to capture bonuses in the north than it takes in the south. He is right about that. I think there's some fixing to do in North Hamgyong, Ryanggang and especially in South Hamgyong. I'm back to the drawing board so to speak.

I'll update here when there's more to tell.

Good news everyone.

The map is now finished and will go public. It now says pending public in the design maps page. I don't know how long it usually takes for everyone to see it but it's gonna be available soon.

I had a fun time making it and I hope you enjoy playing it too.

Selfish bump.

Wow. What a pleasant surprise. Came here and saw that the map has a rating of 4.76/5 and at the moment is rated highest out of all maps on WarLight. I'd like to thank the people who have played the map and liked it. Now that we have the rating system I'm glad to see that my work hasn't been for nothing.

So that this post wouldn't be just me thanking you guys and boasting how high the rating is (:D) I'd like to give you a little sneak peek of something I've been making for a while now.

I know there is a few maps of Japan already on WarLight, but two of them are historical maps and one is a small one with only about 50 territories. The map I'm making is Japan Big and when/if it's finished it would have over 500 territories. At the moment it has 113 territories and it's about 20% ready.

Don't worry Moros. It will be included. Because Okinawa is so far from the main islands I will have to include it in it's own little box somewhere at the bottom of the map. I've already hit the pixel limit vertically so I can't include it in the map any other way. I don't want to make the main islands any smaller because there already were some problems trying to fit double digits inside territories in the Nagasaki Prefecture.

Balancing the map is the hardest thing to figure out with this map. I want to make the map so that each prefecture is a bonus. As you can see from the link below there's a lot of small size prefectures in the south but as you go north the prefectures get bigger and bigger in size.

http://upload.wikimedia.org/wikipedia/commons/thumb/b/bc/Regions_and_Prefectures_of_Japan_2.svg/500px-Regions_and_Prefectures_of_Japan_2.svg.png

I try to fit in as many territories in the map as I can but when some prefectures could fit well over 20 territories in the north, I can only fit under 10 in the south. Hokkaido isn't a problem because it has subprefectures so I can easily slice it to smaller pieces. I don't want to make a map where the starting positions would already decide the game.

Nice map, i think you should introduce "north vs south" distribution :)
