Hey everyone, wanted to get some opinions on this idea.
WHat if after a TEAM match is over, you were able to see what the opposing team's chat was? I think it might help, being able to see what the opposing team was thinking, maybe learning a new strategy for a map.

Be honest with your comments, if you think this a shitty idea, feel free to tell me

A lot of people use it to just chat with people they know well, online or IRL, and I don't think they'd want all of that to be public.

I doubt that most teams would even want to share their strategy discussions with everyone else. You can learn a lot about how they think about strategy and then learn how to beat them. The alternative would be for them to use all private messages, but that defeats the purpose of team chat.

That's not even getting into the personal/private discussions that they might want to have as a team. I play a lot of games with friends as teammates, and I would not want those conversations public, simply because they are discussions among friends.

This seems like a really bad idea.

Agree with the sentiments above.

Though I do get where you are coming from Nighthawk... would be interesting to see opposing strategies and see what opponents had to say about you or how they judged you and your teammate.

I've played a few games with a Dutch teammember, so of course we spoke Dutch in the team chat (I'm Dutch too, if you haven't guessed already). That would also kill your plan and I agree with the others, you don't want private convo's to become public.

If you want to know what they were thinking just ask them, maybe they'll share their strategy with you. It's worth the shot.

at most this would have to be a toggle-able option in games, and definitely not a default

Not to mention it would open up a real can of worms in games where the teammates are good friends. I personally keep my chat with strangers very clean and PG (possibly PG-13), as I think it is the respectful thing to do. But in games with my friends, we say some terrible, terrible things. I wouldn't want someone to view the private chat, then report me for using "offensive" language.

What's PG-13?

Ah. In America, PG-13 is one of the ratings given to music. Basically, PG-13 means some violence and hints of sex, but nothing graphic, and very minor swearing.

You post hints of sex to strangers on Warlight?

Duh, what else is Warlight good for? Most people appreciate them, you nonce.

Gems include:
"I find it is usually a good idea to find someone I am relatively attracted to, or that will become reasonably attracted to under the influence of alcohol."

"Safe sex is important. Refrain from engaging in familial relations with anyone holding a weapon."

"While it is acceptable to brag about recent conquests to friends, it is generally not advisable to provide proof by way of used prophylactics."

And so many more!

Nonce?

You're the one talking about hints of sex suitable for 13 year olds.

I'd really like to see what top players say in their games if they want to post that kind of stuff. I don't care about personal stuff but the strategy would be very interesting.

@Moros:

PG = Parental Guidance Suggested, Some material may not be suitable for children
PG13 = Parents Strongly Cautioned, Some material may be inappropriate for children under 13

[More info](http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Motion_Picture_Association_of_America_film_rating_system). Basically just an age classifications; over here we'd call it "13+".

If you don't want others to view it, why do you go on posting examples on the forum...? :p

Maybe a solution would be to make it possible to mark team chat publicly viewable after a game ends? Of course, that'd require a fair bit of coding, changes to the database... It could be done, but is probably more work than you'd expect.

An alternative would be to make it easier to select the contents of chat; currently you can only select on line at a time. If it were possible to conveniently select large chunks, you could easily copy-paste the relevant parts to public chat (or the forum). Of course, that does require cooperation from your opponents. Then again, we're talking about drastically increasing visibility of stuff they wrote thinking it'd be private, so you need their cooperation anyway. (This solution also has the benefit of allowing a partial publication, in cases where friends discuss strategy and personal stuff at the same time.)

John, I see PG-13 applied more to tv and movies than to music..

and I find the current chat to be highly annoying.. trying to copy/paste what is said via the in game text for any median is difficult since you cannot select the speaker/time, and as stated, must do one line of text at a time..
