Ill come up with a typed up procedure of tips for mapmaking and post it in another thread at some point. I'd like to include diagrams to help explain some of the things, so it might take some time. I think there's also a warlight wiki, so ill look into putting it there as well. Essentially, its just little tricks using the vast features of Inkscape to make the maps more aesthetically beautiful, and quicker to create.

As for your Canada map, yes! Anything is fantastic! However, theres a bunch of prepwork that should (not necessarily NEEDED) be done on that map. Borders between provinces should be shared borders as if they were individual territories. Insets might not be the best idea (although artistic license, so you could do whatever you want). Obviously, bonuslinks should be removed. You should make sure that if it is a map of the census divisions, that you are accurately showing the census divisions. From the description, some of the provinces/territories dont have census divisions so you included islands. But some of the islands are split. You would need to merge them and show that there is no data for those areas. It's all do-able however and its really a question of whether you want to spend the time to adapt it.

P.S. You're missing connection lines between Southeastern Victoria Island-King William Island and King William Island-Kitikmeot in Nunavut. (Which the bonuslink incorrectly spells as Nuvanut...) :)

Also, you may be missing a connection between Durham and Peterborough in Ontario. (Diagonal corners, so I'm not sure if it's supposed to be there or not)

Yeah, I did my Diablo 3 map in a couple hours (all drawn manually). Doesn't take too long. I did my other map from vectorizing an image in Illustrator. That actually took longer since I had tons of gaps to clean up. Would have been faster to go from scratch since I didn't have a clean vector file.
