Why is %75 luck standard?: 4/9/2013 16:13:39

Why is %75 luck the standard setting when all ladder games are %16 luck? I guess I just don't understand it because everyone hates %75 luck, but all non members have to make games with %75 luck. Why not just make %16 standard?

It basically strips away all skill right now when I do a 3v1 attack and lose. My short term solution is to not join any %75 luck games/tournaments, but do you really want that as your solution?

The three great reasons to buy the membership are:
- join ladder
- create game with low luck
- create tournament

But not all player buy a membership are interest to play ladder on tourney (most), so basically if 16% luck became standard, less player buy membership :P ....
and one of objective of fizzer is that player buy a membership :DDD

Gnuff, 75% was standard before membership.

Gnuffone, you missed the ability to create games with more than 6 people. The guy who invited me to play bought a membership so that nine real life friends could play together.

If anything Fizzer is extremely lenient and giving with what he allows non-members to do. They can join games with whatever settings exist. They can join tournaments. One friend with membership can provide all the games and tournaments that any group of friends might need. One member per clan can do the same thing, if they don't get tired of it.

Ladder games is the only thing a non-member really doesn't have access to. Well, that and the stats button, but that's a low priority for most people. The ability to create games with special features is unnecessary to play the game fully, and is mostly a shortcut to finding games with settings you like.

I'm not complaining about membership prices or the amount people get to do for free. I don't think that argument is valid since the site/game is amazing without anyone spending a cent.

But, when I mention how %75 luck stinks, many say they don't even know what luck means, and that it probably doesn't effect the game anyway. I just feel like a large amount of luck impairs people who want to get better because it is so much harder to play with good strategy with that amount of variance. I'd rather see the general population get better overall and have better competition. I'm clearly not a top player, but I try to help noobs whenever I can to get better.

I just want to know the reason, that is all. If it is to entice memberships, fine (maybe additional benefits down the road will open the option of changing default luck). If it is another reason, that is fine too. I am just wondering why, that is all.

The 1v1 auto games are with 16% luck, so people can practice there (I think this is why more people are proficient with 1v1 ME than most other settings). I agree that more people would be better players with consistently low luck, but why is that important? Competitive settings on the ladder help increase skill requirements, so we have good competition. Nobody really cares if random FFA 393819 is competitive or not, and a lot more goes in to making it competitive than the luck setting.
