Should WarLight Establish An Official Censorship Policy?: 8/1/2013 06:32:43

(Note, profanities ahead, in an academic context) It's silly that people can have usernames with "nigger" or "fuck" in them, and say these words as much as they want usually, but any particular individual(s) being 'offended' enough to report one person for profanities results in reprimanding. I'm worrying that without thinking I'll say "Holy shit!" or tell someone who's being at least equally offensive to go do something with the "fuck" word, or even call my teammates "my niggas" like I would in *real life* and then be banned from the game.

The official rule is excessive profanity...who measures that? What is it? If there's going to be a limit it should be explicit for the sake of the users right? Draw some lines, or else it's too vague to be punishing people really, that's silly.

I'm not like deeply offended or on a crusade or whatever, I'm just saying. I see people say waaaaay worse shit than I was noted for when I got my official WarLight reprimanding haha.

Anyone else been reprimanded before? lol

I have.

I reported a guy who heavily cursed and insulted my closest family just because i asked him to surrender because he did not follow the rules of a tournament. He replied with "your mother is a whore" and whatnot all over the chat.
It turned out that i called him a "ranking whore" while explaining to him that he did not respect the special rules.. Of course i have been reprimended for that.. I seriously couldn't believe what i saw.. it was ridiculous. Even without the comparison to what my opponent has flooded the chat with.

Fizzer is biased,
Warlight censors language only in chat, from all users.
I quoted what someone said, in the context of attempting to tell them that what they were saying was hurtful, I got a warning.....
This is ridicules, and a show of those in the USA going along with the NSA and other companies that make the censorship possible.
If I spent more time on this site before I bought a membership, I probably wouldn't have boughten one.

Watch this topic get removed or locked now XD

I'm not saying that whoever owns the site shouldn't do what they like, only that it's clearly "messed up" and "mentally challenged" to be so vague and discriminatory about the whole thing. Like, it just makes whoever's enforcing these "rules" look like complete "buttholes". You know?

There are no rules about what can or cannot be said.
There are no rules about moderation.
Welcome to the internet & enjoy your ban.

ps, Fizzer isn't biased, Fizzer is human and ALL humans are biased, and some people on this thread are very clear examples of this ;)

drawing lines doesnt fix anything, just fuels arguments to challenge it. i for one like that the rules are vague enough for the issue to be about the actual context. as opposed to having wordlist bans or something equally ridiculous in place to ensure censorship "for our safety". you do get a warning before a ban when you get rightfully reported. you should use them to learn what is and is not ok in the moderators book.

that being said, imho, calling someone a ranking whore admist an argument shouldnt be reason for warnings, but replying to mindless profanity with more profanity should.

What even happens when you are "reprimanded"? Is it just a warning not to say that kind of thing again?

Yeah, you get a little pop-up, like the one you get when you have a new account, which lays out to you the rules again and also shortly states the reason for your most recent slap on the wrist - for example: "disrespectful forum comments".

Who gives a flying rat's @ss? If you can't handle some anonymous person on a time-wasting website making a comment because they feel emboldened by their anonymity, than you probably need to grow some thicker skin.

I realize that I am older than the majority of Warlight players, so here's a little tiny set of tidbits I've learned in life, especially pertinent to today's coming-of-age generation in 'Merica...

Life isn't fair.

You won't always get what you want.

People aren't here to please you. They don't have your best interests at heart. They don't really care about your feelings.

Get over it.

Your life will be better off when you stop expecting of other people and making your life your own.

PS...by "time-wasting website", I am not implying that Warlight is a waste. I'm saying it's a way to kill time. And Fizzer has done phenomenal work.
