What would be "mean as crap" for me to do would be to discuss this in a public forum. These settings are bad IMO:

-2 day boot - you will have a lot decided by boot as normal is 3 days. Is making all turns 1 day faster really worth deciding games on boots?

-No attack by % - why exclude this option?

-map - I have never played it, but why is it ALL blue and purple? Some colors would go a long way to make bonuses easier to see.

-Full distribution 5 picks - picking 50 spots is pretty damn tedious. Anything over 25 is really. Why not do 3 picks per player with random warlords?

Why the 2 day autoboot?
The 2 day autoboot has been the standard in LEA since the very beginning, so if any games are decided by it, it will probably be a non-LEA team that gets socked by it. (Which is why we specifically called it out as a warning).

Why this map?
Because one of my best friends in Warlight, NinjaNic made it. He is also the clan's Cartographer of Catastrophes (chief mapmaker). I have a tremendous amount of fun playing on his maps and would be happy to share that fun with any other players that also enjoy those sort of things!

As far as attack by percentage and distribution mode, you would have to consult our tournament director, Kasparov. He designs all our official tournament templates. I will be happy to bring this thread to his attention so he can come explain himself.

For better or for worse, the LEA focuses more on fun team play than on strategic purity. (Probably that's one reason why you rarely see an LEA tag high on a ladder. lol). Either way, I guarantee you all that I will have a blast playing these bad settings with my friends. If anyone feels they would not have fun playing these settings, I would personally recommend not participating in this particular event.

Yeah, I get that it isn't intended to be that strategic, but I am guessing %75 of players will end up not picking 50 spots and just leave it up to luck. Especially with no wastelands.

But if they do, 50 spots is very painful to have to pick. Especially when coordinating with 4 other players and the shorter boot time. If you compare it to a standard 3v3 Europe game, you have over twice the picks to make and 2/3 of the time to do them in.

There are an awful lot of strategic template tournaments floating around.

Anyone who has taken part in an LEA event has an opportunity to influence future events, and this Season's template is testament to that input.

You can't please all of the people all of the time, and the template for the season's matches is only one part of the enjoyment to be garnered from playing the game. We tend to focus more on team interaction.

I see your point, but I'm not sure the math adds up...
If the template says 50 picks/player, that is certainly not correct. It's only 5 picks a player. I've played this exact template 3 times completely through, and all three times, I've only made 10-13 total picks and I've never seen more than 4 total lost picks by any one player. I'm assuming that I won't lose all my picks because the other team certainly won't be picking on top of themselves just like my team won't be.
Lol. Now you've got me thinking maybe I screwed up and posted the wrong template, but I'm on mobile, so I can't check. Lol. The suspense is killing me!

I really, really, really hope that I get the chance to meet the AWF team on the field of battle!

(If the brackets don't help that happen, I might just set up an "outside of tournament" game to make sure it happens! Yeah, I want it that bad. Lol)

Chris is mostly right about picks per player. If there are 10 players in total with five picks each, then 50 territories will be selected, so each player should pick the best 50 territories. That doesn't always bear out: where the number of selectable territories is greater than 5 times the number of end result territories, or with a no-luck cycle, or in full distribution. In general though - it is a good rule of thumb, and we will look at it. Thanks Chris.

Yeah, 50 picks is not required unless all 10 players pick the same 50 spots (in whatever order). Usually it is much less than than because you don't mirror your teammates %100.

Take a strat 2v2 game for example. You might pick different 1-2s, then the same the rest of the way. In that case you need 6 picks, not 8 because you did not overlap the first 2 picks.

But, in general you are going to be picking dozens of spots with your template (10 players x 5 picks each), or you are risking letting the AI pick for you. I've gotten to picks in the 20s on europe 3v3 (24 total picks) before. If I just picked a dozen I would have gotten auto picks after that.

It is your tournament, I am just trying to help out. I am betting most of these players would just pick a dozen spots and end up with auto picks. Hopefully my posts will help them understand why that is a bad idea and they will get better.

Hmm, I have not played many 5v5 templates. We used one in the Nations Cup that was fine (on the expanded europe map). I would think Rise of Rome would be OK for a 5v5 too.
