British and French and Italian and Portuguese empire had more resources than Germany (without Africa), and it's allies and resource war was the name of the game. If you look at a map at World War 1's end, you'll see that France barely even got into Germany, just an Alsace bit. Lines stayed generally the same until late 1918, a couple months before the war ended, starting with the Vardar offensive in Bulgaria and the Third Transjordan offensive in Turkey.

Exactly, Skourby, you seem to underestimate the Britsh and French Empire's potential, together those empires covered 40% of the total world landmass. In the other hand, the Germans were already at their maximum, and lost a huge amount of soldiers, Germany would have surrendered soon or later, exhausted of this war.

Fun fact: The US started ww1, because the Germans were plotting with Mexico and promised them to give them back California, Texas and any lands lost before.

second, it was the Americans who completely took over the Western front of World War 2. The Germans only declared on the US because fucking Japan had to bomb them
