Note: I go to a very diverse public school where racism is not a problem:

Quote 1: depends on follow up statement
Quote 2: not racist but partially true. South slave owners were really bad.
Quote 3: Racist.
Quote 4: People have their doors unlocked while driving at any time?
Quote 5: Not Racist.

Implying that a neighborhood with lots of minorities is unsafe isn't racist though if that city does statistically have high crime.

Nothing racist involving me telling someone to be careful when they go to Detroit or Flint.

They may have lots of blacks living in them, but that's not why I'd suggest being cautious in them. The fact they've both been deemed murder capital of the united states in the past is far more relevant.

This is like calling me racist if I dislike someone who's black, even if my distaste for them has nothing to do with their race.

I think "racist" is demonized. It has a lot to do with social responsibility and awareness of the differences between people/societies.

Responsibility, because when you belong to group X, you will be somehow judged by actions of other X members.

Differences exist, and we better be aware of them than not.

what im saying is the impression it gave me was "black people are scary" probably because of my situation. i lived in a whiter neighborhood where we didnt lock our doors and so that connection seemed implied.

or maybe indiana is just more racist than usual. i did feel like it was subtle unconscious programming that im still unlearning.
