Uhh this isn't reddit where after 2 minutes a thread dies.

Also, Eklipse' pics is what I consider on-topic trolling.

1) Standardised testing in America is being done horrifically. We need a smoother approach. Just have standardized testing be held a week near the end of school (week or two before final exams).
2) Good. It pushes the mentally disabled children to learn.
3) Yes (especially in high school). It is necessary to prevent ADDs and all of that stuff.
4) Needs more explanation. Also, the more general it gets, the more ground it covers and the more time it takes usually.
5) Yes. Math helps you with basic skills like economics and counting, and for more advanced tasks like science and engineering.
6) Yes. We must not let the bad events in history repeat itself. Also, history teaches us the wisdom of the past into the knowledge of the future. Make sure to five an unbiased view.
7) Good, but should cover, more languages like Mandarin Chinese and Indian.
8) Cover them, but don't force it into the minds of children. Both of them are different points of view of the same event.
9) The social environment in schools differs from school to school.
10) Keep them if children are participating in them.
11) Self Defense (in areas of high crime rates)

the falcon guy:

With number 5.... when did you last take math?

I don't know about all of you, but by 7th grade, the only math i was taught was algebra. there was no more math.

Very few kids will use algebra. In many cases, it should simply be replaced for underachievers with more suitable classes.

If we want an army big enough to defend America... we would need to triple it.

China and Russia are both expanding their military forces.

I heard Liechtenstein is expanding it's army as well, maybe better quadruple the USA-army ?

Powerpos: Don't be stupid.

China has over one million troops, and a large navy than the US.

They also have less land to defend, and have behaved very aggressively towards their numbers, to the extent that Japan has decided to expand its nuclear weapons program.

they should put more emphasis on what science is, how the scientific community operates, the real definition of a scientific theory, and how scientists use theory, then we wouldn't have people saying evolution should be taken out of science books.

forget about the truth or non-truth of a theory, nothing is going to be proved to someone who simply refuses to believe. evolution is the foundation of biology and if you want to be a biologist (or a geneticist, zoologist, botanist, historian, archaeologist, etc) it's something you have to know about to do real work. then when you are well educated and established in your field you can start disproving theories.

also, us history taught in schools is horribly biased propaganda. history should be taught, but i don't think i would ever trust a state sponsored public school to teach it.

i hate tests and this looks like a test (all essay questions no less), but here ya go:

1. What are your thoughts on standardized testing? Good or bad? Why so?

good idea, but not executed properly. i think people should have a minimum amount of knowledge to graduate high school (basic reading and math). i think too much emphasis is put on homework and classwork, and not enough on testing. i would have graduated with honors if grades were based solely on test scores. i think school should be about gaining knowledge, not learning to obey a master.

2. What are your thoughts on special needs education? Good or bad? Why so?

i don't know much about it, but i did spend my study hall class in the special ed room cause it was easier to goof off and the teacher had a sense of humor. my impression though was that the special ed kids were just babysat for 8 hours. not really good.

3. Do you feel Sexual education is an important class? Do you feel it should be improved, stay the same or be removed?

god yes. i think middle and high school kids should be given condoms. it doesn't increase your chance of getting laid, but it greatly decreases the chance of someone getting pregnant.

4. Do you think we should teach more general subjects? A "prepare you for life" class, basically.

way more emphasis on personal economics. not knowing how credit scores, taxes, interest, etc works can really ruin your future. it doesn't matter how good you did in school, if you mess up with credit it's a long long road out of poverty.

5. Do you think the maths classes are important, and if so, important for what? Are they good, bad? Do they need improvement et al?

the math program at my school made sense, mostly. i hated how you started at square one every year, but i can see how most kids needed that. there are basics you need to know, but you should be able to opt out once you have that, if you want.

6. What are your thoughts on the current state of Social studies classes? Do you think they are doing a good job?

see post above about history

7. What are your thoughts on language classes? Good or bad ? Need improvement?

i never took a language class, so i have no idea.

8. Do you think evolution theory should be taught in schools? If so, what about creationism? What other theories?

see post above. and absolutely no to creationism, it is a theory about religion and has nothing to do with science.

9. Do you think the social environment in public school is great? Do you find it lacking? Should it exist at all?

children are the worst people in the world. i might have become a healthy well adjusted adult if i was home schooled.

10. What are your thoughts on the extracurricular activities? Such as art, chorus, orchestra, JROTC, Sports, or Shop class. Do some need to leave? Do others need improvement?

all good (though i suspect rotc is indoctrinating). i dont like how parents force kids into some things though.

11. What are some classes you'd like to see?

absolutely none. school is for nerds.
