To be honest, I'm not at college age yet. These questions were posted because I found them interesting and I wanted to see what kind of replies they would garner. Good luck to you, Z-Dog!

But here's a question off the top of my head.

According to Kant's moral philosophy, we, as members of society, have a duty to tell the truth at all times, under any circumstances, regardless of consequences, whether they be godd or bad. Do you agree with this? Why or why not?

Sometimes, it's better to tell a small lie, than to deliver a painful truth.

the doctor tells you your grandma will die in 2 weeks. She doesnt know yet, but if you tell her, she will most probably feel sad/disappointed/worried. However, if you dont tell her, she can spend the last of her days peacefully and happily.

What do you choose? The small lie or the painful truth?

This sort of question requires you to be looking from your grandmother's perspective. So the answer would still be to tell a small lie. Would your rather die in your sleep knowing this was your last nap or sleep thinking about tomorrow ?

Telling a small lie is not ok. For example telling someone they don't look terrible when they do is a small lie. Not good. A large lie depending on the consequences can be good. For example (if it take a very out reached example) telling the Prime Minister a lie to avoid a pointless war the unlawful death of thousands.

Small Lie = Bad
Big Lie (With large moral gain) = Good
Lie with no moral gain = Bad

@Skunk, What if a Small Lie has large moral gain?

Example:

"Hitler, its okay, the Jews really do like your mustache."

Wouldn't a "large moral gain" make it a large lie by definition?

A large moral change makes it a large lie.

Take this example then. If a murderer comes to your home and asks you whether your friend is hiding in your home(the murderer has the intention of killing him), what would you say? We've established that not lying with negative consequences would not be good. But would the consequences make it a small or big lie?

Why would you talk with a murderer who comes into your home? Shouldn't there be some other form of action taking place?

Needs a better example Sunshine. Also, I have a sudden urge to watch Remember the Titans...
