Why would the EU invade ? It doesn't make sense not only would they not have the armies to do so, they wouldn't have the means to do so and considering a lot of the EU trade comes from the USA a lot of the EU would collapse immediately similar to the Wall Street crash in 1929.

Also, Canada has a smaller Population and Military, and less crucial resources.

Did you know that Canada is second biggest producer of snow? And wilderness-desert? And the magnetic poles?
(and more seriously, Uranium)

Let's look at a statistic.

Canada has literally ∞x more magnetic poles than America. I think that's hard to compete this.

hey, I take offense to that. We are no worse than the Midwest, all the crackpots and kkk members went off with George Wallace, leaving the fundamentalists and poor white trash to rule.

I guess I should have remembered the old adage about sarcasm and the internet. If you were wondering, my entire post before "in all seriousness" was sarcastic.

Oh...whoops. Well, sorry for not picking up on that; my bad.

It's debatable, and a pressing frain in higher arithmetic today. But as the divisor gets smaller and smaller, the answer gets exponentially bigger and bigger, and it will lead up until ∞. 0.(9) and 0.(0)1 are geometrically proved as 1 and 0 (respectively). In equation [Y = 1 / X], if X is 0.01; Y is 100. If X is 0.001; Y is 1,000. If X is 0.0001; Y is 10,000. There is a pattern: for every ciphre 0 in X, another is given to Y. And if there is an infinite amount of ciphre 0 ([0.(0)1]) for X, there will be one for Y, leading to infinity.

And infinity is a number in mathematical usage, though, that's not debatable.

America has more steel, farmer, and such production.

Canada still has the magnetic pole. Beat that record.

Is that *your* Russian professor, or *a* Russian professor? If it's your own professor, tell him he's fucked. If not, don't believe everything you read. And I'm Canadian.

There's basically zero chance any part of the US would become Canadian or 'under the influence' of Canadians -- well, unless you mean by 'under the influence of Canada' to mean 'under the influence of reality', such as Obama care (i.e. socialized health-care). But Canada isn't the only world state to embrace such things, and it's definitely not the best of them. And I'm pretty pro-Canada, so there ya go.

The US has some good things that Canada lacks. #1 being the US Constitution. Canada has something close, but the freedoms guaranteed by the US Constitution greatly surpass *some* of those guaranteed by the Canadian equivalent. First amendment is a really good example.

The sacrifices American ancestors gave to fight for those freedoms are too dramatic to surrender to this hypothetical-Russian-professor's ideology. No way are any Americans going to simply give that history up. I'm actually not a fan of the US politically -- in many ways -- but in terms of this fundamental set of principles of freedom, I'm a big fan of that. I think most Americans are, too.

Depends on which 'mathematics' you're talking about. In some versions, it's a number. In others, not. See http://math.stackexchange.com/questions/36289/is-infinity-a-number for more detail.

Ok, I also agree this map is rubbish. For my own locality, I can say that in any split, Idaho would not be paired with Washington, Oregon, or California. 99% of Idahoans hate everybody from all three of those states. We would most likely be part of Montana, Utah (Idaho is the second most Mormon state in the country still), possibly Wyoming, and quite possibly both Dakotas as well.

Interesting link, will hold in mind. But still get the impression that in *most* mathematics, infinity is a number. The arguments made definitively against do not seem so strong.

Canada is usually seen by organisations that rank these things as more free than America. f.e. https://index.rsf.org/#!/ (Canada: 10.99; America: 24.41; higher is worse) and also seen as having a higher living standard.

I'm not denying any of that. I'm trying to say that the specific freedoms that the US has better than Canada were hard-fought-for and would not be easily sacrificed by the people of the US. As a people, they value these too highly to give them up and become 'under Canadian influence'.

I'm thinking along the lines of the first amendment. For example, Canada does not have such a strict *legal* separation of church and state. Yes, the US has more interference of religion in politics, but when that is challenged and brought to court, the law consistently backs up the separation of church and state. Whereas, in Ontario, for instance, we have gov't sponsored Catholic schools, and that would be quite hard to get rid of since we don't have such a principled legal standard as the US' first amendment which courts can refer to.

I'm not saying *all* the US' legal standards are better. I'm saying that the ones that *are* better are also ones that US people would have to give up in order to fall into this hypothetical Russian prof's scheme. And they just wouldn't.

It's not a question of arguments, it's a question of definitions.
