I won this game via boot but otherwise I would have been in bad shape as I did not make my picks fast (No-Luck Cycle).

With South America being an FTB and a wasteland in Australia does anyone see a possible way to win if you don't get South America?

Just one of those things with Small Earth I think...

Small earth warlords can only be won by fasted pick.

if the other player has south america, get Europe. Then follow them either into North America or Africa to stop them getting a second bonus. Hold them a few turns and your extra bonus will pay for itself.

That's what I'd do anyway - would still be a challenge but far from a foregone conclusion. also in a 2 player surely you wouldn't want Australia? too far to go for a second defensible bonus...

With perfect play no. I can only see one possible way, but in that scenario the one with first pick dont pick anything else (to make pick as fast as possible) and end up with north america or australia as 2nd pick. then Europe in 2 turns and manage to defend 3rd turn from africa or player with 1st pick expands north america 2nd turn(for some reason dont go full in to Africa 2nd turn). But player with 1st pick will get reinforcement card even with failed attack on europe if they dont move 2nd pick untill 3rd turn anyway so need some mistakes/luck to win.

At game with this settings,your picks should be (I can't see the game):
1.South America
2.Europe
3.Asia
4.Africa
If you get 2 and 3,you get europe asap,while from asia,you go to north america. After getting europe,you go to africa (africa and NA can be changed). Then,you fight with income of 10,while your opponent have 7. If you hold europe and at least one territory at NA and Africa,you'll win for sure!
If you get 2 and 4,you get africa,then go at NA and SA. Take europe asap too. With income of 13,you can go into asia. Then go to NA from there and your opponent will be trapped. If you hold your bonuses and don't let him take NA,its easy to win!

I find that with small earth, if you're at a disadvantage you might as well just focus on ruining your opponent's bonus before they can get it.

Update: in turn 3 if player in europe out delays and avoid getting hit with the stack in africa and get africa with big stack they will break south america next turn. then it will be a brawl =)

Think i found a better scenario aswell... either N america or australia again for player in south america ofcourse. But this time other player has europe and africa. Full from europe into North africa first 2 turns. if im not wrong they will get first move into north africa with 12 so 11 defend against attack of 7 from south america so they will not get card piece turn 2 unless they move 2nd spot. status: 4 in south america 7 in north africa. now you can gamble to complete africa and get reinforcement card next turn or play it safe and take 1-2 spots get card and complete africa next turn. if player in south america gets card turn 4 same as you they will have 21 troops there so you need 13 to hold. if they did not attack africa turn 2 they can have 28 then you need 18 to hold.
might not work havent calculated how it will go from there but you will have +1 income but smaller stack

taking 2 other spots in africa first 2 turns so you take north africa with 11 defend with 10 you only need 2 spots to complete which i think is very likely to hold. status: 4 south america 6 north africa.
I dont think south america will attack this turn but to break you they will have to make attacks with 1s from 2nd spot to outdelay you to be able to break your 6 since they have first move. if they are not behind on cardpieces they sure will be if you deploy 3 and dont complete untill next turn anyway to make it 100%

If you get SA and spammed the 3 picks around Europe you have won for sure. So no there is not any way to win this without first pick.

I know but he asked if there is any way and if you leave your 2nd spot unpicked, which i have seen many do to commit faster,you have 2/3 chanse to not get a spot close to europe. those extra picks can be what gives you 2nd pick.
i just enjoyed trying to figure out if there was any chanse to win in what we all agree is a losing position.

everyone thinks small earth coin games are basically a lottery
i still don't get why they haven't removed it yet

I think Small Earth is the most played coin template, hence the main warlight's income source
