Its oil yes but also the need to keep an alternate to their system of power down so that multinational corporations can continue to run the world in the name of profit at the expense of the vast majority of the world. Look at Nicaragua and what they did there.

The Mayans predicted it. The Aztecs predicted it. Nostrodamous predicted it. They said all of the thing that are hapenning on our world now will happen.

Boring, you are right about the proximate causes for American entry into WWI, but the Lusitania is held to have kicked off the political organization of pro-war forces. Without it, would the political will for intervention have coalesced and eventually won out? There's no way to tell, but it you could certainly make the case that it eased the path.

In other news, the Mayan long-count calendar that ended in 2012 was found carved on obelisks memorializing the glory of various leaders of the Classic Mayan civilization, each trying to outdo the last (while stripping their lands bare of trees and setting off centuries of soil erosion) in a stark parallel to the Moai builders of easter island. Their eternal empire was struck down by their own ecological short-sightedness and hubris, do you really believe that they could predict the end of the world but not their own imminent demise? Folly!

I agree - it did spur American sentiments against Germany, but it was just one of many events. From Richard Davis Harding's account of the burning of Louvain, to Lusitania, to numerous other sinkings, and even the deportation of Belgians in the fall of 1916. I could go into the Wilson's election that year and the impact it had on the discourse as well. While the Lusitania was perhaps the most famous of these events, it was hardly the only one. I am just being pedantic because I study WW1 history though :) Dont mind meeee

What it all comes down to is that ever since the Revolutionary War, any war or problem that America does not poke it's nose into we are chastised for. America is forced to do something every time there is a problem in the world, because for whatever reasons, good or bad, we have taken the role of "World Police" and it sucks. That doesn't mean that we're on the positive end of conflict, just that we are forced to choose sides.

I would never say that the War against Japan was parented or that the Japanese were not provoked, but to begin with the Japanese were in the wrong in their campaign in Asia to begin with. America is forced to do something every time there is a problem in the world, because for whatever reasons, good or bad, we have taken the role of "World Police" and it sucks. That doesn't mean that we're on the positive end of conflict, just that we are forced to choose sides. as to the Nuclear bombs (you talk like there was 1 but it was 2), it was unfortunately necessary. In Japans favor, I would say that it was over-powered. In America's favor however, I would say a couple things. First is that it is in the Japanese culture that they will fight to the death or until they cannot fight any more, so without the bomb, the war would have gone on much longer and involved many more deaths. Another thing I would say in America's favor is that we did warn the Japanese government before each bomb, instead of just dropping them out of the blue.

As to Germany? That entire war was messed up from every perspective. Germany had the Holocaust(I really don't care if you Germans deny it, it happened), Russia destroyed much of it's own land and sacrificed millions of people in the war as well as killing political enemies of the government. America was selling shit to both sides of the war and claiming not to be involved. France lost (not something messed up, just like to say that it happened "again").

As to the Irish vs. Britain? I'm sorry but the rest of the world doesn't care, you should just fight it out and get it over.

on the subject of the cold war: it never could have escalated, because at the time we were the only 2 countries in the world with enough left to fight with, and the entire world would have been left in ruin if it had happened, both sides knew that. because it would have had to been a nuclear war.

As a last note on America, I would like to say on a positive note that after every war, we have given trillions of dollars in aid afterward to help the people who were misplaced and devastated as a negative effect of war.

anyone who would like to discuss these things further are welcome to go to my site and with enough interest I will even make a separate forum category for it. to the OP i would like to say that I am sorry our posts are this far off topic

that is all, goodbye

Germans know exactly that the holocaust happened, so you shouldnt imply they did. Besides, denying that in germany is a criminal act and no trivial offense.

I know that in Germany it is forbidden to deny it, but I have also heard from multiple Germans who claim to not believe it or claim that it was much less intense than most of the world believes

The world isnt asking America to help for years now. America chooses where it wants to help, do you have police in your city that only comes to help if you have something they want?I love how the US turns over its operations in libya to NATO and all you hear about is how a Canadian is running things now,A Canadian that served 30 something years in the US military lol.
