There's a difference between abuse and disciplining. Abuse means constant hitting with little provocation, disciplining means hitting to correct a child when he misbehaves.

If a child is too young to use logic, they won't know why you're hitting them. If they're old enough to use logic, then use logic.

But that is my point, precisely. Children are impulsive and naturally curious. They cannot understand why a thing they're doing is wrong, but they do know it is wrong when they are punished for it. They'll know why it is wrong when they get older. A couple of smacks or slaps just hammers the lesson harder into their heads than grounding or gentle reproving. Generally, those parents who hit gradually cease doing so when their kid hits puberty.

In Syria, they fight the army.

In WWII, 10 yos fought off the Russians in Berlin.

Hell, there have been generals who commanded armies as kids.

In Africa children are fighting for the corrupted warlords.

Just depends on who mentors them and the environment they are raised in.

There is little to no difference between physical abuse and punishment.
I listen and work with my mom, you now why? Because i flippin respect, and like her. Not because she beat me like everyone else.

When people would hurt me, i did not feel like i was being punished, it just made me want to kill the perpetrator.
