No, it's more than two ideas, it's just that it only takes a two step process to produce it. The map contains elements of:

Population density maps
City only maps
Cartogram maps with relative country sizes
World maps showing only populated areas

Looks like a fun concept.

Just don't forget to add South Sudan (it splited off from sudan in 2011), the background map looks more modern that way lol...

No I am right. Scotland deserves 2 territories!

Yes,finally you said something right. Well done!

1. Take the population of a country over 6 million and divide it by ten million. So for example the UK comes out to 6.5, and gets rounded to 6. So, it gets six territories.
6,5 is rounded to 7,so you are wrong.
Sicily is not a city,so fix it.

(if 6,5 continues to be rounded to 7,I'll vote it 1,and create 100 alts to vote it 1)

Can't wait to see Australia. 2 territories, Melbourne and Sydney, connected across the entire island to Indonesia.

Thanks for letting me know about this. I'm not sure why so many svg world maps have this exact same error, but it seems like literally every single time I make a world map I'm fixing this :P

6.5 gets rounded to 6 because I say so, and since it's my map what I say matters a lot more than any threats you can make. And if you do that, I'll report you, and you'll get suspended and all your junk rating sremoved. And it'll be fairly obvious that it's you since I literally never get 100 ratings on my maps.

Being more accurate, the UK's population is only 6.41 tens of millions, so it should be rounded to 6 territories.

Also, you could squeeze in more than 2 territories in Bangladesh, considering it should have 15.

Yeah, I mean the multicountry bonuses. Maybe not but having it coloured would make it clearer.

Why does the population of the Netherlands get rounded down from 1.7 to 1 territory, while it should be 2

logically you should be rounding up though, to keep the same basis throughout the entire map..

for instance, if you have a country with 8.5mil, would you not create it, or would you give it 1 territory?

although those inconsistencies really don't matter, since as you provided earlier, certain high density countries prove to be impossible to do this way without providing a magnified view of those countries *india/china*

All countries with over 6 million people get at least one territory, possibly more depending on their area. In cases such as the netherlands, they only get one territory due to being too small to fit more than one.

I could see maybe fitting in three, but honestly Bangladesh has a really weird shape and it makes it pretty difficult to add too many territories.

I'll experiment with having the multi country bonuses colored, see if I can't come up with something that looks decent.

The Netherlands only fits one territory, and honestly even that is kind of stretching, As I've already had to erase a lot of the detail of the country (I believe there was some kind of lake system in the middle of the country).

How long in average does it take to complete a bonus?
Also, which are goes next? Btw, I agree with the rounding being your choice.

Normally I set goals for a nights work, such as completing india, or last night completing china, or the night before that completing europe.

As of now I'm sort of planning to do Canada and then some of africa, then the rest of africa and northern europe, then indochina and oceania, and then south america possibly over a few days.

You round them like this: Whatever it is,I round it down so I'll have less work.
Right?

That is true, although I didn't have that in mind when I actually decided to do it. What I had in mind was that since I had a 6 million minimum population for a country getting a territory it also made sense to also require 0.6 or more towards the next million to get an additional territory.

the space problem comes from using the mercator map which makes areas like Europe northern Asia and northern America appear bigger than they are while Africa and southern Asia and America get smaller https://de.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mercator-Projektion#/media/File:Tissot_mercator.png
the red circles are all equally big

Nice catch, although i'm actually not using the mercator projection. I'm using a map projection called "Robinson", which is what's called a Pseudocylindrical Compromise projection, as opposed to mercator which is a Cylindrical Equidistant projection. You can see the spatial layout of Robinson using this image (similar to the one you linked for mercator):
