If you haven't realized by now that there are different types of people no matter where you go or which God you worship then you must be living under a God damn rock. Also, Britain was never forced by America to give up her Empire, India was too costly to maintain with their independence movement so Britain split it up real quick and got the hell out of there. I assume most of Britain's colonies were given independence due to cost, unrest or something else along those line. Let me remind you that Canada, Australia and New Zealand were still part of the British Empire well past the end of World War Two and only asked for independence in the 80's because it seemed high time we got our independence from Britain.

Britain spent itself into financial ruin fighting WW2, and ruined the public morale to support further military activity (such as a war to hold onto the colonies.) It's safe to say that British neutrality in the war would have allowed them to keep their empire. They would have political support for foreign military actives (something no one wanted after V-E day)and the economy to finance those activities.

Instead they spent their soldiers and war machine on killing fellow Europeans.
