Unreality Prized Tournament:

Concept: Players can earn $ through winning the games in this tournament.

Roles:
Host: Responsible to host the tournament, and carry out the verification of payment transaction.

Non verified Contestant: The players in this tournament. A non-verified player will need to send US$ 1 to the host to let the Host acknowledges that he does have a paypal account. Then the host will send him back the US$ 1 and then the contestant will become a verified Contestant.

Verified Contestant: They have been verified from the host that they really have a paypal account. They dont need to send the host US$ 1 anymore in future Prized tournaments.

Transaction Fee:
Paypal will charge transaction fee when you gift someone money.
If it is a contestant <-> host transaction, the contestant pays the paypal transaction fee.
If it is a contestant <-> contestant transaction, the loser pays the paypal transaction fee.

Tournament rules:

1. Single elimination. This is the fastest format to end a tournament.

2. For each game, the loser pays the winner US$5 dollars once the game ended. In this case, players who lost at the first round will lose US$5. Players who lost at the 2nd round will be overall even ( +US$5 then -US$5, excluding for the transaction fee). Players start to earn money from entering the third round.

3. Losers who dont pay the winner will be trolled by everyone in the forum. Yes the winner will suffer US$ 5 loss, but this is the risk that every contestant should acknowledge when joining the tournament.

4. The host should make sure there are enough verified contestants before making the tournament. The host is adviced to make the number of rounds in smaller number to prevent long and slow tournament. This tournament has MONEY involved, so it is important to keep the tournament small to avoid problems (such as... imagine two trolls met at a branch and decided to have their game running forever without ending it, all players at the other branches will then need to wait forever.) Remember, whenever money is involved, it is best to keep all possible problems small.

P.S.
I'm not going to host this tournament. I'm just throwing out an interesting idea in my head. The whole concept may not be viable at all. Feel free to fix the concept.
Also I haven't researched the cost of paypal transaction fee. If you find a better tool to replace paypal, great.

I dont get it, why would a player want to host a paid tourney when there are so many free ones out there?

I prefer $5 to not getting trolled :)

the chance of the loser trolling the winner is very slim, since all the contestants have gone thr the "a bit troublesome" verification process

I wanted to say that if I lose, I would not pay $5. I dont care if somebody starts trolling me for it.

Although I applaud the attempt, I think this is a ridiculous idea. As there is no way to implement the $5 transaction if the loser is unwilling to pay. Trolling on the forums will only work if they come here regularly and have the mind-set of a six year-old girl (or perhaps Pulsey).

another idea is that everyone gives the cash to someone reliable at the start of the tourney, then the person dishes out winnings after the tourney is over...

but the obvious problems associated with that is that the person might just take the money and disappear forever

I like Brain's idea. Also, Unreality could implement a "best of X" mode also, meaning that X games are played, for every lost game I lose $5 and for every won game I win $5. Moto***** if you're reading this I would like to challenge you to a best of 101. (I shall not reveal Moto*****'s full name due to privacy reasons).

@gror: Imagine a RR of 8 players. Thats not so big for a tourney. So each player plays 7 games. Every game is worth 5 dollars. So one person pays 35 dollars. then 35*8=280.

280 dollars. thats 7 memberships.
Person abandons account and buys a new account. Rest 240 dollars... gone with the wind!

Yea of coz a trustable host may work, but a group of trustable players could also work. The host can always pick contestants that is well trusted.


Despite there are a lot of trolls in this forum, there are also more than enough trustable players here.

@Pulsey - Care to go back to the first post and read the first point. Single Elimination. If, as Un has said, it starts off as a small tournament to test it out, I can imagine one of roughly 4 people and a host. tooenty dollah!

@Unreality - I do like the idea, but I think it would be unimplementable to the wider Warlight community. It would basically be limited to a group of people you know well enough to trust. However, if you do manage to get it off the ground I would like to participate ;)

p.s. Pulsius I dont mean to troll. It is just that people need to know that there could be top players playing with alt under radar. Contestants need to capable of taking risk when money is involved.

Gror let me make it clearer:

step 1:
Contestants A,B,C,D all send US$ 1 to host, and host send the money back to each of them as verification

step 2: Single elimination, suppose A vs B, and C vs D

step 3: Suppose A won, player B then send A US$5
Suppose player D got killed in real life and C won, C accept no money and goes on.

Step 4: A vs C.
If A won then C will send A US$5
If C won then A will send C US$5

finished.
