military is never intended for domestic security in the first place anyway; only against foreign security(against other nations), and if there is no external threat left(either by one world government or complete anarchy with no governments) then it should be abolished as well. just my two cents at least.

the idea of private police isn't bad either; most rich corporations already have their own private security and they are doing just fine. the only problem is that there should be some "regulations" or limits to private security so one corporation won't get enough power to completely crush everyone else and turn into what we would call "tyranny".

In Russia, the "private police" will make you pay so that they won't bother you, they will mug you, they will kill you, and they will get away with it.

In selfstanding Chechnya, this problem was one of the starts of the Other Chechen War - the invasion of Dagestan by an Islaamish brigade, but before that, many raids going past the Terek, kidnappings, civil war.

Some might be ideologically motivated to do some things by "moral" standards as well, like killing those who do drugs, mugging Turk and Mongol immigrants, and mugging tourists to bring the foreign money to the great homeland. And some might be legitimately good, trying to stop crimes that the watch is either to scared, legally not in bounds to, or paid off to not stop.

there should never be one "big, unchecked" power that can get away with such abusements, this goes for both public and private. Competition between private sectors(and also of government's) is the only direct way to avoid such problems.

Or the last time an actual mugger asked for 30% of your money if you make more than 50k$ each year, 20% if you make less than that, and 5% of the worth of your land, and then wielded some of that money to hire a guard for the neighbourhood, a neighbourhood bookloaner's, labs and upper teaching buildings, and help pay for your health?

Private construction companies. They already build the roads, the government contracts out to them on a lot of occasions. Having folk pay for it cuts out the middle man.

Pfffft. "Folk" won't pay for jack squat. I live in a private subdivision where the government has no obligation to maintain the road, and thus the maintence fund only comes from those who live out here. Guess what? Less than half actually pay into it, despite everyone needing the road. The road promptly goes to crap due to slouches who won't pay even when the need becomes desperate.

Our only choices are to either form a sub-division organization to force payments, thus getting sued because "Tyranny! MUH MONIES!", or to sit around while the road gets worse and worse.
