I see the lowered threshold for comments to be hidden is working much better than previously.

This thread is seeing many of the worst comments being hidden. If folks continue to systematically downvote noisy, trolly, spammy, flamey comments (and upvoting ones wrongly hidden of course), then the forums have some hope of healing and starting to become more productive and enjoyable for all.

I'd estimate I've downvoted about 50% of the comments in this thread: the ones which are trolling, feeding trolling (while adding nothing to the topic), flaming, etc.

The great thing is that it's really easy to up/downvote on a systematic basis, with (at most) one click per comment. If we can get enough people to do this habitually, we will start to see threads like these clean up much faster, reducing the overall incentive for people to make noisy/trolly/etc. comments in the first place.

Consider it like a strategy game, but this game is played in the forums, and the goal is to rehabilitate the forums (esp. Off Topic) into something worthwhile for the WL community as a whole. Every downvote is like picking a weed out of a garden. Every upvote is like a little bit of water or fertilizer sprinkled. The ideal garden would be one with interesting, fun, and useful conversations.

ps, you don't understand him. At all. You literally respect Karl more than him? Either you're just misguided, or you're another troll asshole. Have you ever spoken to him on Discord? Have you ever got an impression of him that's unclouded by your prejudices? No? Then stop attacking him.

i understand he spammed. i understand he's a clueless teenager having fun on other peoples expense. i understand he just wants to sweep his missbehavior under the rug instead of taking proper responsibility and atoning for it. here is a newsflash: writing a generic apology post might have convinced the mods to revoke your perm ban but the internet does not forget. my prejudices exist for a reason, once i see true repentance from him i might reconsider, or not, i have no responsibility to ever respect him again. attempts to pretend the incident never took place and that it's business as usual do not go in his favor. he isn't supporting the community, he's just showing how he can use the forum to make more attention seeking threads without recurring to spam. we already know he needs constant attention. maybe if his parents had given him more (or less) attention, he would have learned proper netiquette.

why would i want to speak with a spammer anyways? waste more of my time?

further more you can sod off yourself for defending his actions. supportive troll is supportive.

Dude I felt shitty in the process of doing what I did and felt even shittier from the end result.

if you felt shitty why did you continue doing it?

you felt shitty afterwards because you got caught, not for doing it.

past tense is not the correct tense that you should be feeling it btw.

bad actions don't get swept under the rug with an "omg i got caught and got banned, my bad!", they have consequences, you don't get to come back and ask for help as if nothing ever happened.

Now you want him to atone for it in some way; what exactly is that way?
Shred has an imagination. You do too.
Here's the newsflash: You don't respect him, don't talk to him. Stop replying to his threads, you have no obligation to demand he gives some repentance.
ps and anyone else has a right to express his opinions. Your request is unreasonable.
Your idiocy is that you're pestering someone constantly for something they've already done their punishment and apologized for. There's nothing he can do to show "true" repentance, so how about you stop acting like some high and mighty arbitor of justice.
Another benefit of posting about Shred's past behaviour is to warn and remind people of it, so they don't get 'burned' by helping someone with a history of anti-social behaviour. That's another social consequence of anti-social behaviour: your reputation tends to take a hit.
He's making a thread to get advice on something, screw off you fop dandy.

A fine f*ck you to you too

He spammed, no ones going to get burned more by helping them than they would if he did it again.

This example of fopdom has earned you a downvote

For anyone interested in how and why it is important for people to respond to anti-social behaviour with consequences, I highly recommend learning about the evolution of co-operation and reciprocal altruism. This is a good place to start: https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Evolution_of_Cooperation

[Thanks, Math Wolf! Too bad about the background thing. Ah well, it's at least slightly readable and people can get the more readable version from the link.]
