@MoD, You don't disagree because of culture? I think that Swiss or even European culture is independent of religion, because Switzerland is quite secular. I think that one of the problems of direct democracy is that the majorities oppress over the minorities a lot, say if the USA had a direct democracy, slavery may have never been outlawed (at-least until post-WW2). I don't think the Bikinis in Saudi example is relevant here, because Saudi Arabia is an authoritarian dictatorship, while the West has a tradition of religious liberty.

Do I overall agree with the ban? Maybe, it can help stop racial profiling, and these economic migrants (I don't like calling them refugees unless they go to a nearby country like Israel lol) always demand lots of things that are unpatriotic of Europe. There is a lot of crime in these economic migrants, and I don't think Europe needs to let them in.

Burqa is not in the historical european culture, that's true. Bhuddism, Hinduism, Sikhism is not in the european culture either, but we don't ban the Turban, the Sari, or Buddhist robes, or even the hijab.
What is in our culture, i would hope, is personnal freedom and human rights. Including the right to wear anything you want as long as it doesn't overstep other people's personnal freedom & right, and/or cause a security problem.

Again, the example of Saudi Arabia is a bad one. The Talion law is a bad one. Just because Saudi Arabia has an authoritarian theocracy as a gouvernent doesn't mean we should use them as an example (unless it is for policies not to implement). They behead atheists there, that doesn't make it a good reason to start beheading saudi muslims here...

I understand the cultural angle to the ban. I hate the ideology behind the hijab (same as the burqa), and i wish that we lived in a world were women don't wear that self shaming piece of clothe , but i just don't think that a ban on it would do anygood. The only way out of this is information, dialogue, education and ideological warfare

Saudi Arabia and any other country is free to ban anything in THEIR country. But none of them is free to do what he wants in OTHER countries. So if they wanna wear burqas, either go away or get shot. Their choice.
