What is the protocal on booting people? I have played lots of games already were people dont get on for 2 or more days so i boot them or vote to boot them. Is it considered rude?

For me, in real-time games booting at the timer is a viable strategy and you should expect to be booted immediately. (Although, obviously, some people cry if they're booted.)

Multi-day, it's a good practice to at least ask on chat and give a nudge before booting. (Although, once again - the boot time is supposed to be the hard limit...)

In general, I don't boot to win, only to save time.

For me, booting in real-time games isn't to be used as a strategy, but just to keep the game moving along. If somebody delays the match each round with slow moves (when there's no reason to) i'll boot. If somebody slips over for one turn or the match has been going on for a longer time where it takes more time to commit your orders, I wont.

On Multiday games.. Well, the limit is usually fairly long anyway, so unless they've said something i'd boot straight away.

When I started, I booted at the buzzer. Since then, I realized that detracts from the fun of the game and can be douchey.

I don't generally play real-time games but my personal rule is that I wait at least double the boot time before considering booting and will certainly message and/or nudge them before that point. For multi-player games, I personally wait until at least a full day has passed beyond the boot time before I will consider booting. It all depends on the context of the game as well... if I am on the road to victory I may boot sooner only because they likely gave up instead of surrendering.

What's rude is to join games and then not move within your alloted time.

its neither rude nor not rude imo. its really up to you to boot. but i would say that people who come on the forums and complain they got booted are pretty lame.

Generally, if there's a reasonable autoboot, I wait for the autoboot, unless *this is the bazillionth time...*
Exceeding the boot time and trusting the opponent won't boot you is a little like walking on a zebra crossing without looking left and right. You shouldn't be hit, but if you are it's partly your own fault.

This is a game. You are here to play and you are here to play with others.
If you are here for the stats create a couple of extra accounts, play yourself, win and show off. If you want to play AIs open a game with you and the AIs.
There is rarely ever a good reason to boot. In my opinion people boot 90% out of two reasons: Stats, or lack of angercontrol.
I rarely ever boot someone myself. He must have been away minimum double the boot timer if not more AND the game has to decided with a very high % based on my experience. If thats not the fact, I vote to end, no matter the turn.
Most of the time, people are reasonable, understand that, are there for the game or the challenge and honor that.
Sometimes though there are people that dont understand why you shouldnt use the boot buzzer as to have an easy victory on their record, cause thats what they came for. They do that once, find their place on your bootlist and life goes on.

I think that in any RT game, waiting 2X the boot time on the initial turn should be *required*, let alone not-rude.. some games take a fair bit to start, and someone shouldn't be booted for not sitting there pressing the refresh button for half an hour or w/e..

in MD games, unless it's a tournament game, I will wait a pretty decent amount of time before I even 'notice' they are over the boot time... honestly, I expect everyone on here to have a life, and sometimes life takes over for 3-5-7 days at a time, and sht happens... I usually check all my active games about once a month.. and anything over 5-7 days ish, I tend to enter and mention something about it.. otherwise.. the game isn't going anywhere.. neither am I.. booting is the number one cause of ruining the end of a good game, and a game with no lead on after it "aka, non-tourney" have no benefit to ending asap, so why rob myself of a good game?
ofc' many games I play now have autoboot, so I don't have to concern myself with it anyways..

another note.. in FFA's with more then 2 people remaining.. if I feel I am winning, i will almost *never* boot.. IMHO, in ffa's, the top dog just ruins his victory by booting his opponents, whereas if other players boot him, the victory remains *more* in tact..

When I create a game, I just set up the auto-boot the same as the manual boot.
It's easy and stops any arguments.

I am like most decent players and wait for the auto boot, if none then 10 -12 mins is a fair wait. Also checking on chat for their presence. People often have computer/internet troubles, or like me you may have to perform an emergency nappy change mid game lol! The rules clearly state you can boot once the allocated time is up and this, although frustrating at the time is reasonable. However a lot of great people/players out there would always wait and these are the players you want to be able to play with and if you boot un-timely fast you will end up on their blacklist so it is up to you :)

If the boot time is a fair amount of time, 2+ days for Multi-day, or 10+ mins for real time, then I will generally boot shortly after I am able. I try not to boot if the person is important for game balance in FFA or teams, but am more likely to boot if they are down to one territory and no bonuses, or something like that.

If the game isn't decided yet, I try not to boot, even in 1v1. If the game is already decided, then I go ahead and boot, even if right at the timer. Most of the time they aren't coming back, and have surrendered in a rude way.

I think booting for the win at the buzzer is a pansy move if the other player has generally been timely and a decent player. If it is consistently taking the other player excessive time to take their turn I understand the boot, but throw a chat at the other player or something and see if they can explain their slow play.

I live in a very rural area and even though I have high speed internet my internet is not always reliable so I have an understanding for other players who may take a little extra time on a realtime game. There are not always options for everyone to be hooked up to a T1 line! If I could get DSL, Cable, or Fiber I would be one happy internet user. My options include dial-up, Sattelite, or line of site wireless system. I have a line of site system stretching the limits on antenna TX distance.

For a multi day game, I have already waited the 1, 2, or 3 days...what is one more. I am here to play a game not ruin the experience for others. I will generally wait if it only happens a time or two.

For real time games i wait for the auto-boot if there is one or try to wait until about 10mins.

I dont tend to play real time games much so i cant really say.

For both, i will be more leniant if booting would unbalance the teams. If its 3v3 and both teams have a player not responding at 10mins i will boot....otherwise i will wait as long as possible. (less so when playing with people i dont know though)
