"I, Robot", the first in Asimov's robot novels was published in 1950, but Asimov started writing it in 1939! So here we are 78 years later discussing the robot novels. Asimov's deep insight into human nature continues to be relevant.

yes, he was the one who first coined them, first mentioned in several of the stories that are in "i, robot" collection of short stories, and then later repeated through the robot series and foundation series.

The sci-fi elements of these novels are minimal: they're more notable for Asimov's predictions on the future of humanity rather than details on how AI or space travel might work.

A conflict arises in the robot novels between 2 factions of "spacers" (the first wave of human extra-planetary colonists) over the future of an increasingly packed earth and eventual colonization of the rest of the galaxy.

A few hundred years after the first space colonies are founded, the spacers greatly surpass earthlings in technology. The spacers achieve uncontested dominance over Earth; although, the earthlings greatly outnumber the people in all space colonies combined.

Imagine if humans are successful at founding small but independent colonies on Mars in the next century. How do you think the future might play out if the vast majority of colonists are--in today's parlance--STEM people?
