It's funny of autism is used as an insult on the internet. Those using it don't see to realize autistics are often very smart. Interpreted accurately, it's basically an accusation of being a genius with poor social skills.
That's a popular narrative, but on average autistic people have a lower IQ. (Hence the distinction between high-functioning autistic people vs. low-functioning ones). You also have to understand that the development of social skill is very closely linked to general intelligence, and that intelligence is too complicated a concept to unpack as a single attribute- there's multiple types of learning and cognition, and to push the narrative of the 'socially incapable genius' is to try and narrow the definition of intelligence in a useless and self-serving manner.
It does accurately reflect a lack of social skills, though, and I agree that using it as a go-to insult is asinine. I'm not really sure why it's supplanted gay as the insult du jour among middle school children.
But it's equally silly to romanticize a mental illness as 'misunderstood genius.' You're basically halfway there, recognizing that people in general are pretty bad at understanding mental illness/neurodivergence... but then biting right back into the problem by peddling an alternative narrative about autistic people.
There's really no point to being so focused on autism, tbh. This post is just all for the sake of amusement and not to be taken this seriously.
I guess it's just a bias in how I've come to know people on the spectrum: though poker. There are lots of aspy and aspy-ish people in poker and many of them are fucking super geniuses. I suppose the dumb ones just don't end up in those circles.
