It's only good for you, but for everyone else it's bad. Example is as you stated thinking outside the norm. If everyone did so, our economy would collapse.
Example clothing industry: If every person had their own head and not mindlessly followed "fashion trends" dictated by "celebraties" and the industry, no mass production was possible and the big corporations would all go down.
