^Why would God write a book with confusing riddles that we have to figure out by comparing them to what life is like now.Just because you were taught in school to believe something doesn't mean you have to.

Atheism is rationalism and relies upon just as many assumptions as other religions. The scientific explanation of phenomenon is objective to some extent (gases expand when heated, gravity is a thing, mommy's tummy and daddy's cummy makes a babby, etc.) However, when science denies that culture has any transcendent properties and denies the metaphysical, and what's worse: when science reduces men to cogs in the machine and replaces culture with material, it abandons its (acceptable) utility in solving basic problems and takes on a corrupting effect.

@Kastle Bravo

Indeed, deep down, scientific knowledge relies on faith, like religion. Anyone can believe any way or the other and no one can tell them they are objectively wrong.

when science denies that culture has any transcendent properties and denies the metaphysical, and what's worse: when science reduces men to cogs in the machine and replaces culture with material

Not all people who don't believe in any god veiw the world in this way.I may not believe in any god. That doesn't mean I believe every cognitive function can be perfectly attributed to functions in my brain. It doesn't mean I'm a determinist.

In fact, when I'm faced with determinism or physicalism, something inside me rejects the notion that I'm a machine. I fear the possibility of everything being a series of actions and reactions; I fear the idea of existence being pointless/purposeless. Such gaps are often filled in by religion, for people want to believe there is order in the world, that there is something beyond death. They want someone to give them a purpose.

And the best thing is: No one can prove the world is chaotic. No one can prove death is the end. No one can prove existence is pointless.

I am fascinated by physics and finding out how the world works. I want to study it and understand it. That does not mean I reject art, literature or philosophy. For I am not a positivist, and I do not hold scientific knowledge as the absolute and only true knowledge.

I think it is important not to attack people for their religion as long as it is not dangerous or extremely foolish.

Islam is violent

Would you class Islam as a religion that is "dangerous or extremely foolish"? Assuming the answer is yes, based on the fact that violence is quite dangerous, was that you openly endorsing attacking Muslims for their religion?

That's crossing the line of criticising Islam and Islamic texts, and attacking Muslims for their religion.

why would you endorse attacking people? that seems fairly savage- more savage than most qur'an entries, quite truthfully.

Apologies if I misinterpreted what you said, but it definitely seemed like you were endorsing attacking people because they happened to have a different imaginary friend than you do.

on topic, no. science does not require as much faith as religion. i'm so glad people who say this are in a minority in most western countries now. christians can't stop atheism, and soon enough muslims won't be able to stop it either.

If God was/is real, why did he/she/it create diseases? That's cruel, isn't it?
You should watch these videos if you want to hear a debate about God: https://youtu.be/-suvkwNYSQo and https://youtu.be/_Te862VIUBo.
Personally, I don't believe in God, but I don't disrespect people that do, because that's their own view. Imo, God is a coverup for the unknown, hence the phrase "God knows".

1. Without diseases, the world would be havely overpopulated, and would cause many more wars and suffering.
2. Without suffering there would be no happiness.
3. It's a punishment for Adam and Eva eating the forbidden fruit.

But I'm an atheist so I don't really believe the third reason.

*heavily
If no one believed in religion, then wars (and terrorism) wouldn't even start and technology would be much more advanced. Why would God care how populated the world is? Why would God like people to suffer?
Without suffering there would be no happiness.

You can experience happiness without suffering. For example, people can tell jokes and you'd laugh at the funny ones. Also, people watch videos that they find amusing and don't not getting injured from watching the videos.
It's a punishment for Adam and Eva eating the forbidden fruit.

It doesn't make any sense to punish people who didn't eat the forbidden fruit. If someone decided to punish you for doing something you didn't do, you'd think the same thing: 'why are you punishing me?'.

You didn't answer if it is cruel to create diseases. The answer is, without any doubt is yes.

Well yes. It's terrible to see people trying to bash or get into conflict over something deeply personal and subjective like religion. If an atheist wanted to maintain their social circles and just general happiness, they'd know to put their respect for others and self respect on near equal pedestals, and wouldn't try to crack open a religious man analytically as though they have more layers than flesh and bone.

Without religion there would still be war. Most wars have political reasons and religion is often just a tool to make people want to fight there wars.

of course there would still be happiness but instead of a "mood" it would just be taken for granted. The only way to recognize happiness is through at least a little suffering. Suffering brings perspective. Also, with no suffering in the world, there would be no reason to care for each other. Indirectly suffering is what makes us "human".
