Yeah, invites trump the criteria.

And no vacations. Might seem harsh, but I could be a victim of this rule, myself.

It's summer. You have to allow vacations.

I like the overall design of this tournament. Just a few comments:

not sure if time since playing warlight should count in the ranking. If a noob wins the tournament, he is certainly on his way to become a great player

The no vacation sounds reasonable, and I think people should try to take their turn at least once per day. However, sometimes you're just busy, you miss one day, then you sleep, go to work etc... and that makes 1d18h, so I think 2 day autoboot is a good compromise

This might be a bit too complicated, but I would like to see a bonus round. This would comprise a series of games against AI's, progressively more challenging, and you would get prizes for each victory (eg cards, or you could turn the defeated AIs into slaves) which would help you in the next round.

Map selection is also important, with a different map each round. Themes are nice. I hope others have good suggestions too, but my idea would be to start in Hurley's Castle, then choose a country, a continent (Europe maybe), go to Earth Large, and finish with a battle for the solar system.

Just a few ideas. I hope this catalyses conversation

|> "time since playing warlight [shouldn't] count in the ranking"

Agreed but I couldn't think up of another way to separate two equally ranked players. Feel free to suggest another one.

|> Boot times.

I don't mind 2d (it's what I normally use), but with the summer season approaching I kind of wanted this one to wrap up a little faster than usual.

|> Bonus round.

Might be better to make an entirely separate "trials" tournament, but it's a very interesting concept.

|> Maps.

I really need some good map suggestions, even for this tournament. I can make decent settings but I'm just a little unoriginal when it comes to choosing the spot. I also hate unfair maps, which kind of limits my personal selections.

I think it would be ok to allow players to be tied for the same ranking.

As for maps, the fairest ones are obviously the symmetrical ones (house, ship, sumo ring, or that star one). However, Super Cups allow you to do so much more than a regular tournament. I enjoy themes, with a short intro at the beginning of each round.

18 groups done so far, going to bed. Each group has SEVEN DAYS to join, otherwise it starts without those players.

Shouldn't be an issue unless four people in the same group don't start.

So far we have 23 groups that are done. Only nine to go!

I'd like to announce how we're going to sort people for the second round as well. Each group will be randomly composed of people from different groups who placed 3rd, 4th, 5th, and 6th in the first round. Therefore your position in your group will influence who you will play in the second one.

Winning two games in this double-elimination tournament will ensure your spot in the third and final round. It should begin in about a week or so, whereas the third round will be in a month from now.

There are only three groups remaining. I'm also guessing that the second season will begin sometime in September.

ROUND 1 IS COMPLETE.

Everyone who placed 3rd-6th place in Round 1 were invited to their Round 2 group (Strategic 1v1, Medium Earth, No Luck). This was randomly assigned, as was the case in Round 1. Competitors have until JULY 4TH, 2012 to accept the invitation. Any decline or no-show will force me to re-invite everyone to a round-robin. One must win TWO games to move on to Round 3.

Everyone who placed lower than 6th are out of the tournament. Their tournament rankings will be calculated and inscribed at the bottom of the rankings sheet:

https://docs.google.com/spreadsheet/ccc?key=0AtOa7GN6bwsLdC11V24yWFFxWFE3cUM1dTVlSlZWenc#gid=0

Everyone who placed 1st or 2nd will receive an invite to Round 3 after Round 2 is complete, which should be in late-July or early-August.

Hey, I just want to say a massive thanks to ericleb010 for putting on this tournament, I know it must've been a lot of work organising it all but as far as I can see you've done a great job so far. I never competed in 1v1s prior to this, I would always decline them, but the concept of a massive tourney like this made me want to get in on it, and I'm glad to say that I actually feel like I'm a better player than I used to think I was, and I've been joining loads more 1v1 tournaments since. Also, I qualified for the final 128 which I never thought I'd do and I'm really pleased with that.
