Hubris is creating a tournament that aims to identify the best player on warlight and not including the best player this site has ever seen.

Hubris means extreme pride or arrogance. Hubris often indicates a loss of contact with reality and an overestimation of one's own competence or capabilities.

X, I thought it sounded cooler :P

Ummm, I'm not sure whether there will be a next edition; I was thinking of starting a small Strategic 1v1 Masters RR (for the top 6 players or something).

My bet is that the judge was Szeweningen. It is slanted toward [WM] over apex based on who was invited. I know for a fact that a couple of [WM] guys invited are weaker than some apex guys who weren't at strategic 1v1. I'm also unsure how some of the non WM or apex guys got invited when they are not as good as many of the guys left out. http://warlight.net/MultiPlayer?TournamentID=3411 (a tournament I made a few months ago) is stronger than this Strategic Masters Tournament. I wouldn't really consider the winner of that tournament or even this one the best master of strategic 1v1. I think perhaps a better representation is to look at [20]'s A League Round Robin which features about 15 of the best players on warlight in a round robin tournament.

Despite the problems with this Strategic Masters thing, it is still a strong tournament and it will take a very good player to win it I think. However, I think you are trying to make too much out of one tournament. I'd say it'd be in your best interests to let the good players make their own tournaments and invite the players they think are good. If you focused on improving your game instead of doing things like this that are unneeded, maybe you would have more respect and someday be good enough to be invited to one of these. Not trying to start an argument or anything, just a word of advice.

If you want to keep making these tournaments, I'm sure no one would have a problem with it since its just saving everyone else time from making it themselves. But I personally see no reason for you to do this unless you want to try to make yourself look like you are doing extra for the community which is the reason I didn't like you in the first place. Some of the things actually help the community and are not done by the makers to gain fame: Clan League, Live Streamed Events, Promotion/Reglation League, Nation's Cup, Play-off's by dunga, etc. Try working on something that you think would actually help the community and make warlight become better and more fun to play.

PS: You're off my blacklist. You are no longer the annoying spammer you once were and I can see improvement on your gameplay. So keep improving, and maybe someday I'll see you in the top 10 of the ladder.

Sorry about the long post but I felt there was a lot that I needed to say :P

More specifically, hubris is a pride that comes before a fall. An over-confidence that has tangible repercussions.

But yeah, it can just be a fancy synonym for arrogance.

Er, nope.
Specifically hubris came from the ancient greek ύβρις, that is when a man tries to challenge a God, feeling superior to him.
The consequence of the fall is not required but just expectable then.

It's good to see Sundance the Lion on his way back to form too. Problems with digestion are all too common around Christmas, methinks.

2.

(in Greek tragedy) an excess of ambition, pride, etc, ultimately causing the transgressor's ruin

http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/hubris?s=t

A good example of hubris is demonstrated by Detective Trollussa, in this very thread. Without the arrogance he would still be as stupid, but it is a direct consequence of the hubris (pretention to intelligence) that he reveals his true lack of understanding. So his ambition ultimately causes his ruin.

However, since he is a expert troll, maybe it was just a piece of meta-irony, and the dramatic irony is at my expense rather than his.

*Bump*

I'm slightly late, but the tournament has ended. The first Strategic Master is........

Featherbucket!

WM 1v1 dominance has another chapter :)

Second place went to......

dunga!

Apex just lost the title; revenge in the potential next round perhaps....

I was thinking of making a small (8 player) RR for the top 8 in this tournament. If all the players agree to take part is will be made up of: [WM] Featherbucket, dunga • Apex, [WM] Mushishi, [WM] dead piggy, Carl Soderburg, Yoshi, [WM] Artham and fatality.

I would also be happy to create a second series if people wanted it (perhaps in a couple of months when I'm less busy).

Top 8, would you be interested?
