If you truly wish to learn more, you have to
A)Humble yourself
B)Put time and effort into finding your mistakes, and work on not making the same ones in the future.
C)Bring in outside ideas and learn new "tricks" and moves. Watch games between high level players and ask high level players for advice.

I can use myself as an example on A. Last winter, I believed I was a good 3v3 Europe player. I didn't learn much when I thought that. Then Gnuffone kicked my ass a couple times, and I realized how much I actually had to learn. To become very good, I first had to admit to myself that I wasn't good currently, and that I would listen fully to advice from players that were better than me. For some, this is easy. For me, it was not, but I'm glad I did it.

Like Sze says, eliminate your own mistakes. I found that even when I was a worse player, I could spot a vast majority of my own mistakes.

If you have done #1 and #2 and you still lose games and you aren't sure why, ask! If you are playing a very good player, pm them asking what your mistakes were. If you are often losing to guys that are not good, and you aren't sure why, make a game with one of the mentors on this thread or someone else you think might help you who is very good. They can help point out mistakes for you and make you a better player.

Kasparov, will you be mentoring yourself? How can I trust you to train me when you cannot train yourself!

Hah, Jefferspin! I will be mentoring others, and accepting lessons as well. Who said I can't use my own creation? ;)

Edit: You're better than I am at the moment, anyway, so we shall see who shall be teaching whom!

Awesome. We now have four mentors (two advanced mentors, and two that accept all skill levels) and five students, if you include myself.

The list is updated! Now that we've got the framework for this setup, let's see if we can get it started officially. Right now let's just keep it simple; if you're listed as a teacher, try and have one or two games going on with a student or two. The student/teacher ratio is good enough right now that we don't have to worry about anyone being overloaded by that.

I want to be tutored by everybody advanced, like Good Kid, MoD, etc. :D
Might be a bit slow though (like at least 2 turns/3 days)

Weisblut, I believe Good Kid has signed himself up to be a teacher, not a student. He may still be willing to accept lessons from you, however; I leave that up to the two of you. :)

Weisblut was trolling I'd imagine. And I'm fairly sure I could hit top 3 in 1v1 right now if I really wanted to, but I care more about integrity than ranking. (ie. I'd likely have to stall like many others have done.)
