In 2 weeks from tomorrow (6/21) I leave Boston and go to San Fran until the end of June.

I've already made some plans. Giants/As, Alcatraz, whale watch, brewery tours, cruise and some other stuff. But what do people recommend?

At the end of the month I leave and go to Auckland, NZ until July 8th.

My plans for Auckland are much less defined and I don't know what to do. What do people recommend?

We must have some players from both of these places, what do you guys recommend?

-------

Each passing day takes on a new reality, it's odd watching movie commercials and planning things out in the office knowing that not only will I not be there but I won't even be in the same country.

I continue to grow anxious and excited at the same time.

OHHOHOHOHOHOHOHOHPICKME! Depending on when you leave, we might run into each other.

But I went to San Francisco last November... even got to do Union Square Black Friday shopping. Four recommendations:

1. The Little Chihuahua (Mission District, 581 Valencia Street). If you're like me, you think Mexican is to die for. Amazing little joint with great Mexican food and friendly service. It has almost a fast-food atmosphere, but it's not crowded and doesn't smell like grease. You walk up to the counter, order what you want, and they bring it to your table. It's in a residential area near the famous hills of San Francisco, so parking is a little tight at times, but it's a good neighborhood. I wouldn't be afraid to walk through it alone.

2. If you're bringing along a special lady friend and want to take her out to a fancy dinner, Le Central (453 Bush Street... walking distance from Union Square, though not in heels) is the place to go. Really fancy and high classed, but the food and wine list (I may be underage, but I know my wine) are astounding. I will warn you that it's in a more 'historic' part of San Francisco, and is therefore a little cramped when it comes to seating space. There's a nice bar in the place too, and the service is very friendly.

Moving on to 'things to do'..

3. If you have a day or so where you're not doing anything, or are planning on just getting out and enjoying the sun, Golden Gate Park is perfect. My family and I went there one day, it was a pain getting in to (too many one way roads, but we are from Alaska, where if you want to get someplace, there is only one road). We walked around the Conservatory of Flowers. If you're worried about the pollen, don't be. I have serious allergies and I was able to walk through it no problem... but outside did seem a little cold after we left the building. We also went to the California Academy of Science and it was quite the sight. They have an aquarium in the lower part of the museum and the next three stores are historical things, skeletons, archives, and the living roof. Then for lunch we grabbed a hot dog from one of the street venders and walked around the parks and lakes. Great day that was topped off with previously mentioned Mexican joint. c:

4. This is a must do. The Ferry Building Marketplace is about a football field of year-round, enclosed and air conditioned culture. Anything from bakeries to fresh fruits and veggies. Fish caught that morning. Sur-La-Table (cooking store). AND THE CHOCOLATE. OMG. It wasn't too crowded when we went there, but it had a good flow of people. Even if you don't buy anything, I highly recommend that you visit.

Also, if you get the chance, depending on where you're staying, TAKE THE F LINE trolley cars to the Marketplace. They aren't the tourist ones that everyone thinks of when they think trolley, they're the real ones used back when the trolleys meant something besides a tourist attraction. It's also the cheapest of the three lines ($2 for two hours instead of the wallet-killing $8 for one way). If you plan to ride all three routes, get a day-pass. It's so much cheaper.

@-@ Lots of text, hope it's helpful!

I'd always been interested in visiting Boston and SF. Boston lived up to the expectations. SF did not. The best part of CA: Mexican restaurants. They were the only thing worth their price.

SF's Chinatown? Chicago's and NY's are more interesting and seemingly more authentic. Boston's central Italian area is more interesting than SF's. The Golden Gate Bridge? It was ok. The hills of Berkeley overlooking the bay area are interesting (if it is not cloudy).

My bias: I prefer older, more historical cities.

Aranka, my dear.

I've asked you before not to reply to my thread if all you are going to do is post garbage.

Recently you have only frustrated me. You seem to have some spat, for whatever reason with Naomi, I don't understand why. She doesn't address you often. Please do not bring that spat here.

Naomi feel free to post whatever you may like here.

NEWS!

Tigger's last minute plea to become an honest man stay in Aus. has paid off. He was arrogant about the whole ordeal and screwed around entirely too much to the point where if he did get deported all you could do is laugh at him. But he made it! SO CONGRATS TIGGER!

I will be starting my travel in Sydney as I had wanted to!

---------

My bruins are playing the hawks in the finals. I probably won't attend as I'll look to flip my seat into some savings, which is a shame!

I leave in a little less than ten days. Just finalized everything in SF and am really excited. I did airbnb and will be staying about 2 blocks from SF's chinatown and a block from UC-Hastings.

As the time indicates I still wake up in the middle of the night nervous as all hell.

I'm working on my bucket list before I go.

Today I went clothes shopping and went to Gillette. GIllette is where the NE Patriots play. I had never been there before so it was really neat walking around. My phone died or I would post pictures.

On Friday I will take the day and hike the Blue Hills. I used to hike 2x a week during the summer and then got bogged down with other things. The blue hills are a small "mountain" range a bit south of the city. I am really excited to spend a day doing this, it should be really nice.

Besides that I want to do a jog out to castle island, though I may just make a beach day out of that this weekend, and visit a few of my local watering holes I haven't been at in some time.

--------------

I will leave Boston after game 4 so I will miss game 6.

I am really trying to make myself attend game 3&4 but as ticket prices seem to have jumped to over a grand I think I'll be forced to flip them for extra savings.

Below is a mockup I have done of the series.

I think this goes 6. I like the bruins games 1, 3-4, 6. I do not think the Bruins will lose at home. I don't see the series going back to Chicago for game 7 and the Bruins winning.

I think the hawks are similar to the penguins with better goaltending. You guys are younger, but I'm not going to say you are all that much faster.

People want to talk about the Penguins choking. Honestly more talk should be about how the bruins outplayed the penguins. 2 goals given up in 4 games is unbelievable, and the Penguins did play some good games.

Saying that the series win over LA, all be it a weaker team than the Penguins, was also impressive. I did not think LA would lose at home.

At the moment I think the team that is playing the best is the Bruins. If the bruins can continue playing physical and smart they take this series.

A Mock up of the series by James Murphy, A beat writer from boston. I think he usually does a decent job.

Not that espn does the best hockey analysis. But 9/12 take the bruins.

http://espn.go.com/nhl/playoffs/2013/story/_/id/9362277/experts-picks-stanley-cup-finals

If someone wants to make a bet with me, I will stake a month of playing time where the loser can't play. I may add my sobriety after my birthday, not before as I want to visit some breweries in SF!

Boston,

You have failed to answer my requests for a friendly wager in our games. So, I will publicly shame you :)

Terms: $5/game

So, when the Hawks sweep Boston, you'll owe me $20. If you happen to win one game... then you'll only owe me $15.

And yes, I'm proposing this wager publicly at the end of the 2nd with the Hawks down 2-1.
