The third option (Make groups equal) sounds as close as possible to what Chokecherry started with, so might as well go with that.

I vote for the players to be divided by skill. I would rather play in Group B if Group A was me, Frank, Apollo, Arun, Miyagi, and Seahawks. There's just not much competition there, the winner of me and Frank would almost ceartainly win the tournament.

But if you have me, Frank, kszyhoo, Mr. Pink (especially on Guiroma), Gnuffone, ChrisCMU, that would be much better because it would be against players who were closer to my skill level. Group B would then be Miyagi, Apollo, Pushover, Seahawks, Peace, Arun, Bluemonkey which apart from possibly Bluemonkey, I think it would be guys that are of similar skills.

I voted skill, but I have an added twist. Don't worry about making groups even number of players (say A and B). Instead, make tiers of players and use those as the first groups. Then you are letting season 1 sort out those players which seem to be of similar skill.

an example:

Tier 1
JSA, Frank, Gnuff, Mr Pink, kszyhoo

Tier 2:
Blue Monkey, ChrisCMU, Miyagi, Pushover

Tier 3:
Arun, Apollo

If you don't get more for Tier 3, just push them into Tier 2.

That would need to be adjusted once signup is complete. But like I said. focus more on tiers so that everyone is fairly evenly matched. Then you will have a complete ranking 1-n.

Just divide that ranking into whatever group amount you want (5 or 6 maybe), and you have your divisions for season 2

Chris, I'd put Apollo into Tier 2 then and put Bluemonkey into Tier 3. Arun could go either way between 2 and 3.

Yeah, I have no idea who plays guiroma from tier 2 and 3. I know Miyagi does, but that is about it. It was just an example :)

Also, you need to add rento and Ironheart into tiers.

Sounds like fun. I'm just popping in to say that I hope you take Powerneg's suggestion above. It might avoid some confusion.

right, only problem is i cant change the thread name, i will create a new thread right before season 1 starts, but the name will be something like, 1v1 ROTATING TEMPLATE prom/relegation league... Im not the best at names, anyone else have an idea?

Rating on Strat 1v1 doesnt mean much vs Guiroma 1v1.. Ask Pinky Apex im good at guiroma. But i guess id be fine with winning tier 2

You could also make the first rotations group be random, then put the top two people in each group in group a, 3 and 4 in group b, etc. That's how chokecherry did it.
