Most players in Season X just had their final game get created! Once a few more finish, we should have a better idea of who is winning. Right now, it is still very chaotic, even at the top.

I think more tweaks are needed to make FFA ladders work well, but this has been a fun experiment nonetheless!

Definitely! :) I hope we see more FFA seasonal ladders.

Next thing I'd like to see in a seasonal ladder are random teams :) Thanks again Fizzer.

Home stretch?! I've only just completed my first game!

I agree with Arun - a randomised team ladder would be very interesting, and fun. I can already foresee the complaints (Oh, but over the 10 games, xxx had good players, and I always had bad team-mates), but IMO, that's part of the fun!

I am wondering about the rankings. Would it improve the accuracy and competition if the three remaining players were credited with a win over the first player out, 2 players with the win over the second player out and the winner gets a win over the 2nd place player. Maybe add a bonus for the winner like you did with number of completed games in the prior season. Just thinking, but I enjoyed the FFA format; thank you.

I think in this season players should NOT have been matched by achieved rank at the time of the creation of the game (opposite to the normal seasonal ladder).

The boots changed a lot (can't do much about that), but a FFA + holiday season + 2 day boot was not the ideal combination. Remove the holiday season from that sum and you have less problems. Although not a problem in most games, I think the army cap could have been even lower (10x for example).

Finally, a non-symmetric map with manual picks may have been more fun (similar to the standard double earth FFA).

As much as I'm really enjoying this season...

The fact that most games are created in the beginning when rankings are chaotic means that the optimal matchups between top players are never set up. Meaning the algorithm, not gameplay, decides the winners after 12 games/2 months. I think a FFA ladder like this is much better as a long term ladder, rather than a seasonal one. Like a CLOT over several months with just 4 active games at a time.

A few workarounds to this problem is to implement Math Wolf's suggestion where games are set up without respect to rating... but that kind of defeats the purpose of the ladder. You could also try a smaller map to encourage faster games. (The one I covered in the livestream last Saturday was 150 turns!!)

But in the end I'm not sure it's possible for a 2-month FFA ladder to be as good as the traditional 20-game 2-month 1v1 seasonal ladder.
