i'm pretty sure this change is targeted towards players who make new anonymous accounts to troll through a mask.
but then again, people at the highest levels would have problems changing clans and names.
I think fridge is right, a better option would be '5 levels or 20 days, whichever comes first.'

Ok but do me a fovor and explain why more experienced playrs should be PUNISHED by not allowing them to change names? (currentlyu it unables them to switch clans for example..)

When i'm playing Mr.DontKnowWhoIsHe it doesn't matter if he changed his name to Mr.NoIdeaWhoIsHe and then to Mr.StillUnknownToMe. I don't know this guy anyway.

It's different when Mr.AnyStrangeNick turns out to be SirFridge, cause i know who is he.

I think it's not intended to punish experienced players, just make life easier for the rest.

And for me personally is all the same(i don't change my nick anyway and others players changing theirs don't bother me), just trying to understand Fizzer's reasons for this system:P

In my opinion it punishes people who like changing names.. (ok me, gui, pulsey, kerosea.. maybe a few others.. so ehhmm.. minority ;P) but also it makes it almost impossible to change clantags on experienced players' accounts. you may say: "just don't switch clans". Ok. fair enough, i am not planning on changing, but some may, and this may force them to stay in the clan they no longer want to be in or make a completely new account and start from scratch (here both - paid accounts and free ones may feel bad about that because free ones would have to once again unlock all the perks they got from leveling, and paid ones would need to start without all the features they earned by leveling (if any) and they would lose all the features they actually had to pay for) IMHO this is madness...

Furthermore, many players acknowledge their teammates and/or clanmates the state of retirement by changing their names so it clearly tells they are retiring/retired from WL. In the new system it will no longer be possible and this will only make it frustrating for some who will remain in tournaments or challenges with people that are no longer playing...

and .. kszyhoo - Why would you need to see the recognizable nickname of a guy who you play with/against? If you play against an alt, you don't have this information anyway.. and if you don't then in most cases you will open profile page of every teammate and opponent you don't recognize anyway.. (at least i do) As for social purposes - you don't usually open separate chats for every guy you know here, but you most likely have groupchats for some people.. no fuss about searching the nick you remember.. (by the way it would be a nice feature to be able to search with an obsolete nickname to find current profile page(s) of the player(s) who has/ve had the nickname at some point before.. definitely not top priority but there were a few times that it could help me a bit while creating a game.. ;)

if anyone changed clans in less time than it takes to level up 5 times then either you really shouldn't have joined any of the clans or you aren't really playing that many games on a daily basis. leveling up 5 times is not that hard, just play against people of the same or higher level. people changing names all the time does get annoying though. do hope this change makes people change their name less often.
