How many games is the optimal # of MD games to have ongoing at any given time? ie:

Qualifiers:
- "optimal" here means to maximize both enjoyment & learning, minimize the "pull" from IRL to avoid boots (ie: forcing yourself to play when typically you wouldn't in order to not get booted)
- assume strategic player, not diplo, FFA games
- have an averagely busy IRL (ie: not spending 8 hrs per day playing WZ, etc)
- includes the sum of all strat games, either via invites, leagues, ladders, tourneys, CLOT, CL, arenas (yes, that was a joke), etc
- ignore XP gained or WR, this is just looking at fun + improvement (ie: not the optimal game type & count in order to level up quickly, etc)

Interested in seeing if there is a consensus (at least among certain categories of players) or if it's a wide distribution.

When people say "You should lower your game count", some mean to "less than 30", others mean "less than 10" and some even mean "3 or less".

I have certainly personally felt overwhelmed by games when I've had less than 10. I think sometimes it depends on how fast the opponents play as well though.

Sometimes 3 games feels fine, if the opponents play fast, but sometimes I find myself wanting more games when I've taken my turns in all my games and am waiting days between turns for my opponents to take theirs.

I'm currently at 9 MD games between 1v1, 2v2, and seasonal ladder, I certainly wouldn't want more than this.

For me, about 12-14 games. That's my comforatable, doable limit.

I guess we need a deep demographic research:

[1] While answering "how many MD games you play on average" is strictly prohibited in this thread, I would assume that a person would try to optimize the amount of MD games, based on his/her/their enjoyment & learning targets. So this should be a good approximation.

[2] There are definitely dirrerent groups of people, with various enjoyment & learning targets, as well as IRL factors. So a different count of MD games would be optimal for those groups.

Currently in 40 multi-day games

Daily: 1-2 strat games you take seriously and 1 fun game you play non-seriously. Have a clan that allows you to play 1v1 or even 2v2 RT games with decent opponents.
Commit when ~24h on the clock. This gives you 4~6 games.

It really depends on some characteristics of the MD games:

- A large map with local deployment takes a lot more time than a lotto game.

- Certain mods create more time (For example artillery mode where you also can attack others with artillery at a turn)

- Mega games with no fog show all the moves of all the players each turn, where watching the moves on its own can take +10 minutes if not longer.


But in general I would say 10 games a day. (Less if the above stuff is included in your MD games)

on average, maybe 3 RTs a day, however its a mixture between long phases of 0 and short phases of many RTs

I play 0 MD games atm. I dont quiete know what my highest MD count ever was, but i think it should be roughly 25.
On average, over the last few years, i was in 0 MD games.

I'm a different kind of player to most of y'all :)

I only really play MD games, most of them modded FFAs. I currently play around like 15-20 games (not including all the games where my AI is still playing).

I enjoy seeing how game creators make games using mods, testing out boundaries of them or using strange but fun combinations. Another reason I play them is when they do crash / have strange behaviour I know about it. As a mod creator (20+ already xD) I kinda feel responsible for not only my mods but also those of others. Our aim as mod creators is to optimize mods that well, that Fizzer is willing to implement some of the mods as official Warzone settings / mechanics

How many MD games is optimal? As many as one wants.

For me, I've been around 25 for months and is a tad more than I prefer. 10-15 would be ideal for me in terms of how much time I want to spend as well as actually learning from my wins/losses

I feel like <10 is the best for me. Sometimes I get that 'game gets boring' kind of feeling with too many games and end up taking my turns in 2 days 23 hours all the time

100 games, take it or leave it

3-5 is good for me. I have a couple mega games still running and am in some large team tournaments, so only a few at a time for me.

And for QM, if I’m only focusing on one template then I only want 2 games max. I’ll start to lose my memory on what I wanted to do in what game if I have more than 2 games on the same map, lol.

Too many unknown variables. Try hard games -> fewer. Team games -> fewer. Five CL 3v3s is overwhelming. 20 small earth games with very little on the line is not.

If you lead, time-wise, 2v2 counts as 2 games and 3v3 as 3. :/

For me 5-10 is ideal.

Any more than that and I don't have enough time to play them and end up having to play when I don't have time just to prevent booting. Any less than that, and you're constantly waiting for opponents.


The optimal # depends on the player, but generally speaking i think players should be able to commit to every game they are in every 2 days or so. Anything over that, and they are probably just chasing time to prevent boots.
