By all means, consolidate in 1 place, better than having to reference 3+ sites for essentially the same data

I agree, it's a common effort so better to have all in one place for future reference. Also I'm available for some stitching of HE if anyone has HD screenshots

If anyone feels like I'm spamming I can just update this post or something instead of replying every few days. Or should I just send it to Pkmx?

@geforce: probably I would take Hex but would need some help with stitching them together
@hugge: I love to see the progress and that the thread is alive. So keep it up and post!

My ideas on the HEX project:
* I do have one ML power left, so I could run 2 HEX in parallel
* so I could use one of them to do the screenshots and the second to recollect FB powers meanwhile

HEX (https://pkmx.github.io/wzi-levels/hex-earth.html) has 3200 territories which means I need 10 FBs for sFB twice for 3000 territories and another 2 single FB for the remaining 200. But as HEX serves 41 FBs itself, so that should be doable.

Could someone confirm that this is a feasible approach?

It is but makes everything more complicated. The zoom is inconsistent and you can end up having to resize each screenshot to match others. The ideal would be if someone has enough fb to clear the map immediately and then take all the screenshot at the same zoom level

If you mean you're not conquering anything on one of them while doing everything on the second one that should be possible.

Just make sure that the stitching actually works before starting the conquering, would be sad if all that work doesn't pay off.

Also, I appreciate @geforce highlighting to the maps. We should figure out a common way to format it for all maps. Maybe first market and the important recipes

Are you guys using discord or something? Would probably make organizing a bit easier?

Yes that is what I meant.

Step 1) I am starting HEX 1 and blow my FB powers without moving at all

Step 2) I am switching to HEX 2 and collect more FB powers
Step 3) I am switching to HEX 1 and blow my FB powers without moving at all

Step 4) Iterate steps 2 and 3 until HEX 1 is fully uncovered and HEX 2 probably is almost finished.

Step 5) Since I didnt move at all on HEX 1, I have now all the time to make nice screens with all the same resolution and an overlap of my choice.

Shouldn't you be able to play Hex almost completely and then start a new one when you are close to the end and just claim the unclaimed FB powers?
If you do it like this you lower the risk of auto conquering or whatever, and you could potentially play a different map instead of just waiting.

Otherwise it sounds reasonable

Ok otto, sorry I misunderstood the first message. We have a deal, if you take the screenshots, I will do the stitching, be sure to keep the same zoom level while you do that, so it's better if you first try an acceptable level for every part of the map and then start taking screenshots. It's going to be tons of images so it's important you keep the zoom level constant otherwise it becomes an impossible task. There's an opensource software called ShareX to take screenshots, that's what I use, it's light and works well

Can we do a stitch test? I know that this map is **not** unfogged but just to see whether resolution, format etc works before doing the actual work...

It didn't work with my script but it should work manually!

For the future I'd suggest trying to avoid including things like the border as much as possible, and also moving the mouse away so you don't get the highlighted area

How are you making sure you use the same zoom level? There's no indicator for zoom level, and it's hard to not accidentally change the zoom while zipping around the screen multiple times.

I've done this a couple times and 1 problem I had to deal with was the upper right info box that shows the armies/money amounts ended up becoming part of the map. Same with the level name. I was able to get around that by increasing the overlap between the maps being stitched together, notably ensuring that the image being stitched on the bottom has enough vertical overlap to cover the level name and army/money box entirely.

I did all mine manually but there should be software that does this. Doing a quick search, Hugin seems to a free, open source option: https://hugin.sourceforge.io/

And there's other paid options like Photoshop, etc. Not sure how they would handle borders, above mentioned army/money boxes, etc. It's likely best to just screenshot within the borders, excluding everything that isn't part of what you want in the final image, being careful to not include level name, army/money box, icons at bottom of the screen, etc, while also having enough pixels overlapping so that the stitching process is both easy & accurate. And as Hugge said, clicking somewhere off map so you don't end up with a stitched together with dozens of territories highlighted. Basically click somewhere that causes the icons at the bottom of the screen to retract (rather than popup and provide info). If you click a territory, then click into the middle of the ocean (no territories, no bonus markers), this will happen.

Thx krinid for the search and the link. I tested the tool with my screenshot of the previous post and this is the outcome:

It is not perfect but somehow ok-ish. The main issue is that the tool expects pictures of a panorama camera and focuses on getting the perspective right. But we dont have any and dont want the tool to correct perspective but only find matches...

I am trying a bit more...

@otto

You have to look for a tutorial to use Hugin with scanned images. Like this one
https://hugin.sourceforge.io/tutorials/scans/en.shtml

@krinid
If you're asking me I just use the script I posted earlier, it goes so quickly I don't really have to worry about messing zoom level, I can just start over

After ~5h of cutting, ranting about a stupid hugin stitch tool which randomly rotates images without need, finally installing Gimp and then manually stitching over 90 individual files, the unfogged HEX is now finally done.

Unfortunately, the png is 30 MB which is too big for imgur, so I had to scale it down a bit. So sad for my super high res work :/
