I posted this years ago. https://www.warzone.com/Forum/542818-sound-notification-game-start-work-2

The summary concern is:

As it takes a while to wait for some real-time games, I do something else on the computer while waiting. However, I need a sound notification to inform me that the game has started. I've tried 4 different browsers and none work. The notification works after the game has started, but not on the start of the game, which is the most important time, because I can wait 15 min or more for a game, and will get distracted with other things while waiting. People have said that it is an issue with Chrome, but these notifications work on other tabs and games, so I'm not sure what the issue with Warzone is.

I quit the game for a couple of years as a result, because I would get booted between 10-20% of the time at the start of games. I've come back but still have the same problem. Has there been any solutions since then?

You could download the mobile app https://www.warzone.com/mobile and receive in-app notifications.

lol, on my phone i usually get notifications "You are invited to a WZ game" after the game already finished...

the only reliable method is always keeping an eye on the game, on a second screen somewhere, or if you use desktop you could queue the game on your phone and use that as a 2nd screen

There is the possibility of making sure critical sounds are played (see Your name > App settings while in a game). If the sound isn’t played at all, you have no choice but to keep an eye on the tab.

Is the programmer still active on this game, as I'm sure its a programming issue. It can be tested on this game vs other games which actually do work.

Also, it is annoying to have to keep doing the surrender tutorial.

I've also tried the game on multiple browsers and devices. None of the notification methods is reliable, so I always keep an eye on the screen on one of my devices. However, the app notifications are far more reliable than the sounds in my experience. Maybe the app misses one in twenty or so. So if you stick to these, at least you won't be booted that often :'p

Personally, I'm more likely to see my opponent get booted,
because I simply don't trust my brain not to watch the screen, unless it's like get a water and take my phone with me.

I'd like to see this update happen because free wins are nice but I am here to play.

I am very confident that I know what the issue is here, and that it's not really WZ's fault. Sometime ago browsers started being a lot more aggressive with blocking autoplaying sounds, with the aim being to prevent ads from playing sounds. For most browsers the default is to block sounds before the user has interacted with the page.

As a user you could
a) Click around when the page opens to "interact" with it, which should work.
b) Change the browser settings ( should be the same as for Lichess basically : https://lichess.org/faq#autoplay )
c) When you have used a site many times, the browser might "trust" it.

What Fizzer could do is show an icon when sounds are blocked and/or make an FAQ that informs users about it. Since very few will know about the browser settings. The reason it might work on other games is that a) they don't use a new page when starting a game b) they have a play button that you have to click, which might count as an interaction ( depending on browser).

After the change away from flash we lost the volume control on the sound. So now I mute it always. Which leads to me missing the start of games. I don't like all the click click anyways
At least it doesn't play music anymore...

^ You’ve not found the new location for sound sliders.
On website: when you’re in a game, click your name at the top of the page then go to App Settings.
On mobile/standalone: click the person icon in top right, Settings.
