So I have started my second 1v1 ladder run and noticed something interesting. Many or most of the players in the ladder play more slowly when they start losing (including me some of the time)! If you immeadiately surrender games you are losing yet your opponent takes a week to surrender games you are winning, your losses pile up faster than your wins. What does everyone think about this?

Some examples:
Game where I stalled a bit

Game where my opponent stalled a bit

that's because when you are in disadvantage (but can still recover) you want to think more about your turn, because it's more critical. this is not called "stalling". stalling is when someone who has absolutely no chance to win plays more turns and takes them right before the boot time. we are not talking about 1 turn here, because sometimes you don't have the mood to think about a critical turn so you delay it and play after 2 days+.

You playing a multiday game realtime probably isn't such a good example for stalling a lost game. At least that's not even close to how the profesionals do it.

I'm thinking that in my game against you I'm losing and I'm fairly sure its over but like Brisk said.... I need more time to think over this next couple turns score deciding if its worth continuing my play.

Games are created with three day autoboots. Therefore, the only requirement on participants is that they complete their turn within the three day window. Beyond that, they may take their turns as they see fit, regardless of your preferences.

All I was saying with this post is that if I decide to surrender games I'm losing more quickly than my opponents, I can lose games faster than I win them. If I drag my losses out more than my opponents, the opposite is true. I'm Not sure if that makes sense; I know it's kind of wordy.

some people might be going for the 5 win in a row achievement too. i keep telling myself to do this and wait out the games i'm losing and hope i get the winning games done in time, but it feels cheap and sleazy and i never go through with it, so i'm forever on the verge of getting the achievement. (and i'm not very good, so i'm not thinking i'll get the achievement on my own merits).

one thing i also suspect (with no proof of) is that some people intentionally stall a turn to kind of mess up the memory of the opponent and the flow of a game. sometimes im playing a 1v1 multiday ladder game with someone and it becomes RT, and i have a really good idea of the flow of the match, where i should be going, where i think the opponent is going. the wastelands are in my head and i dont have to keep checking history to make sure im not forgetting them. and then (for whatever reason) me or my opponent don't make a turn right away and it becomes a multi-day affair again. i find that i am more inclined to make mental mistakes when this happens. sometimes i forget which bonuses have wastelands in them (or more likely remember wrongly and don't check history). sometimes i space where the opponent had a stack that has become hidden by fog. or which areas my opponent has been focused on for attacking or defending.

of course a more serious or smarter player than me wouldn't have this issue. some people have much better memory than me. and some people will put in more work than me going through the history before taking their turn after a lag in the action.

i really hope this is not a thing and doesn't become a thing, cause i'm mostly about fun, and it's hard to get into a game that takes 2+ days per turn. but at the same time i try not to get mad at someone when it does, cause it's not my place to judge someone's game management or how often their life permits them to keep up on games.

I was bored and checked the 1v1 ladder. Y'all Wolves need to man up and get some work done. Y'all have exactly two players ranked [edited], and they're ranked 235th and 237th. With 194 members in your clan.

there's not very many people in our clan that are into competitive games. most of our people are recruited from diplo games. i don't see why that should be an issue with anyone. maybe you don't like diplo/RP (i dont care for it myself anymore) but you don't have to interact with people that do.

like i said, i'm not very good. my ranking is low because i'm simply not as smart or dedicated or have as much experience as others. oh well. i don't let it bother me cause this is supposed to be for fun and i don't let it define my self worth.
