There is some truth to your thoughts on 2v2 and 3v3. I did not mention them for the sake of clarity: my point is that the clans who focus on competitive skill more than sheer numbers, or petty rivalries, are the ones that pull ahead. My second point is that a lot of clans haven't realized it, and thus it falls on the shoulders of the competitive clans to enlighten them.
I wouldn't have mentioned it at all, but recently I asked a Lost Wolf who he thought the best 1v1 player in Warlight is and he mentioned some random guy in the Coalition of Role-Playing Friends. If clans like [20] and Apex are completely unheard of to these people, then something needs to be fixed.

Yes. You see the problem. And I think it's a fairly serious one. Consider: new players, when looking at clans for the first time... what are they most likely to see? If they check the forums, they see [random examples] Falcons, MSF. If they check the clan page, and assume that the top listed clans are the best, then they see. . . . . Darklords. If they play with random people, chances are they'd run into people from those clans too, simply because of sheer numbers and the fact that a newcomer is less likely to encounter a person from [20] than a person from Darklords.
That's not a good thing. Our role models are less visible than the morons. And it's partly our fault. I'm using this thread to raise awareness.

When I was a noob I remember seeing people like Szeweningen, Dunga, Huruey, Widzisz, Luxis, Impaller, Heyheuhei, Gui, Rubik, and the list can go on.
Those people were in some impossible to reach place. I remember watching their games and be like: holy shit these guys are amazing. I knew of them because I could see the ladder, I read their posts in the ladder forum when they would talk about games and such. Of course, Huruey, Wid, and Heyheuhei were pretty silent but they were always consistently good.
Honestly, if you want to just improve your game, if you want to play in the top 30 on the ladder, simply watch the games of the current 'impossible to reach' people. Go sit back and watch a few MoD games, he's really good at 1v1. Go watch Szeweningen and Psy play EU 3v3. Go watch Timinator play anything. He somehow guesses people incredibly well. Find idols, watch their games, maybe even talk to them. I assure you that all the people at the top of competitive play are really cool people. Except for Frankdeslimste.

I tried to get my clan into 1v1, set up a few tourneys etc. Nobody isn't interested. It seems like we're an FFA clan...!

In the days of JSA and Aranka clan statuses and the so called 'warlight hierarchy' used to be a bigger deal. This is ironic given that the community has grown since then. There was definitely a certain prestige to be part of clans such as WM, apex and #Elite!. It was amusing and entertaining, i'll admit. Heck, I used to be pretty hardcore back then too.
The so called 'trolls and giggles' back then were of higher calibre too, Billy Walsch, YAATs, Qi's alts, me and jsa, piggy, x, aranka, announcer, the great pulsius, Richard Sharpe picking on Arun, and even Anonymous. Those were probably the Golden Age of WL forums.
There was a bit of forum inactivity a while ago after most of us left, and now while there has been a resurgence in forum activity, its easy to say that quality of forum posts is reaching new lows all the time. A quick glance down the forum page reveals lots of uninteresting topics dominated by the same few people.
Just my opinion.

That's not bragging, dude. It's the simple truth. If you want a strong clan, get them involved in the community. Events hosted by Apex, MASTERS, WG, [20] etc are all good places to start. I tried to get my clan into 1v1, set up a few tourneys etc. Nobody isn't [sic] interested. It seems like we're an FFA clan...!
It takes a lot to motivate people to change. Encourage strat 1v1. Teach it. Study it. Encourage using the ladders. Pull together people who are interested in competition, and work together. Also, you guys should probably boot at least 60 or 70 people from your clan. 90 players is too large to restructure a clan for 1v1 competition. It's not impossible to have a competitive clan of that size, but you need to build the framework for it first, set up the correct leadership model and only then start adding numbers.

That could be called 1 of 2 things.
1. Cowardice. 2. Intelligence. Who's to say it isn't both? :)

1v1 is perhaps more 'pro' but i think 2v2's and 3v3's have more value, includes more cooperation and wider strategic thinking.

@Thomas: If I wanted to brag, I certainly could in respect to you. The fact is competitive clans have been making competitive events. If you want to become a competitive clan and become part of that community, you can by simply participating. I love it when clans like Blitz form and come into clan league, and then are on their way to being promoted to league A. I'm not saying that the originally blitz guys were bad at the game, but they definitely weren't thought of as a top competitive clan, now they've gotten themselves involved in WSOW, Clan League, and they've grown. It makes me feel pride because that's how I felt when I started. I was playing a 2v2 Round Robin with JSA and we won the tournament, nobody good was in that 2v2 RR, but it felt awesome so I joined [P] only to be slapped in the face with reality that I wasn't good. So I kept playing, I kept watching, I kept getting involved.
Get involved and you'll find it really fun. Don't and you'll just hate what you don't understand.

true. its sad.
the amount of interesting forum posts is 0.
And the decent clans that focus on rp and social aspects, like W.U., are also quite unknown.
while many clans (like MSG) just span to gain more players.
But I disagree about your opinion that your the hierarchy.
You think your better, cause you better at risk.
Yet no one knows you.
Probably one of the best known players is semicedevine, who is recoqnized for his scenarios.
The real "hierarchy", I believe, is the players who create the most popular games.
