Riddle me this, diplo fanatics. 40 players. 2 day boot. Huge map. How many turns do you think it will take for this game to finish? Let's assume you're in it for the long haul. Gonna win this, right?

Let's say it takes 75 turns to finish. Large map FFAs of this size, it's a fair estimate. Notice that vacations are honored in the template you linked. So with vacations honored plus two day boot times, you're looking at . . . . . a 6 month estimate for one game.

Also note it's custom scenario. I doubt any custom scenario ever made has been strategically fair to everyone. And also note that with 40 people, if all skill levels are equal and all starting positions are equal, you have a 2.5% chance of winning the game. A 2.5% chance of winning after 6 months of time invested.

This is why I find diplos are useless to my schedule.

Forbidden, goal of diplomacy is to talk good enough for people not to hate you. Goal of s roleplaying scenario is to have fun. It's okay to bash diplomacy, just make sure you don't bash rp scenarios! (This would include {rp} clan scenarios)

I can finish a strat 1v1 match in ten minutes, and get several thousand points. Or I can spend 4-6 months losing a diplo game, and get 0. Strat 1v1 gives far better rewards for far less of the energy spent.

But that's just me being practical, I guess.

I understand it can be fun; I tried one or two in my early games. It's just not really all that useful (to me, anyway) :)

i very very rarely ever entered a diplo with the goal of "winning" it. and yet there are still various ways i have fun and be competitive in a diplo game. if i want to challenge myself i take on a bigger opponent. if i want to be political i try to start proxy wars or massive world wars. it's fun for some people. that's all that can really be said about it.

yes, if you are a super serious competitor then diplos would be a massive time waster. but a lot of people play games just to waste time and have fun.

and im really getting this attitude from people that if you aren't good strategically and not playing strategic games on here then you shouldn't be here. it is just a game after all...

There are casual settings that are fun, {rp} made a lot of really fun scenarios, but if you're looking for a social chatroom to spam there's plenty of better sites for that.

people who go to chat sites are 40 year old pervs.

im 13, ive gone on teen sites, you get spam from people more or less saying there pedo 40 year olds, nonstop.

and on adult chat... people are weird :P

in comparison, people here are very normal.

even QB.

(yeah, thats right, i just said something nice about QB)

lolowut i think there is a big difference between someone who doesn't play strategic games and someone who just spams or trolls. i am not trying to defend that at all. i rarely play diplos anymore because of those kinds of people. anyone who has played with me enough knows i'm pretty quiet. i'm not that excited about the chat aspect of a diplo, and it's not necessary to talk a lot to play.

Could you make another clan rankings (competative clans) please? ;)
Take note of current clan league too :)
