It may look wonky, but I had considered a map that would have long rectangular territories running through the lands to signify rail travel vs land travel, so what would take 5 turns to traverse would only take 2.

Something like that could also be used with local deployment.

Set up bonuses for cities, connect cities with rail

It has dawned on me that the Pinsk Marshes need to be represented somehow. What I was thinking was only mapping the Russian railroads that ran through them, however, this would translate weirdly onto the map. Maybe with an illustration of some sort to fill in the would-be empty spots. Ideally, this would create a choke-point where a rather large portion of the German-Russian border would be impassable, or difficult to traverse.

What do you folks think? Is there a good way to represent the swamps?

Mugzybrown, the map I am currently using for reference has every single rail line that existed in this era. Thus, for Germany 95% of the territory would be these railroad territories, ha. I enjoy the idea but am not so sure it will translate in Warlight very well.

Well the idea would be to connect some major cities, not replicate all of them :)

I'm not sure removing territories like that is a good idea, but maybe it makes a lot of sense with the map you're using, may we see it?

I recommend just drawing in swamps as borders and making the whole place being very zigzag.

Seeing that I am 60% done with Romania (although additional research will be conducted to determine if any other special bonuses will be added to them) it is time to decide the next nation to tackle.

To put my thoughts in word, I was thinking about starting Germany or Bulgaria next and even though I am really looking forward to starting the Soviet Union the task is a little overwhelming and I feel it would be best saved for last.

Also, I would love to hear any thoughts on what I am doing well or not so well. Stylistically, naming conventions, etc.

Cheers

Are you going to add any more boni? The industries and academies can only get you so far.

Of course, as I had mentioned in the orginal post the bonuses are not reflective of the final version. I will add traditional bonus types once I have filled the map. It will be done, but it will be the last thing I do.

Good map idea! Looks promising indeed. Putting them into bonuses first would have been a whole lot easier, adding industry bonuses after that would have worked best.

You better change Aland to Åland, but despite that, the map looks good!

Looks great, you also thought about cities? I'm guessing it's more affects the war

Martyrose I'll fix that right away.

Elroi, what do you mean? I am including all major cities, but I do know some maps have major cities off to the side to fully flesh them out. I suppose that would be really cool for the battles/sieges that took place during the war. For example Stalingrad.

Since I am having trouble explaining this concept. The map A Tale of Four Cities by zxctycxz does this very well. The only concern I have is, is there enough room and will it work stylistically.

I personally detest the greatened borough idea. But if you are going to do it, do Smolensk, Moskau, Stalingrad and Kursk. 4 most important battles in Operation Barbossa.

I've decided to add the flags of each nation on the map. However, I do know the historical German flag of the period is a touchy area. I would like to keep it for historical accuracy, but I am not so stubborn to ignored other's opinions.

Please, tell me what you think about adding in flags, especially Germany's.

well my friend, great work with the map.i wait to play it.since i am romanian , i need to tell you something about the map (especialy about the romanian land ) .The territory is well made, a lillte bit strange in west (Timisoara area ) .I've looked for names of the regions and i see that you have documented good, but still are some mistakes (if you want to make the names well.) here are some of them : Medjidia- Medgidia ; Geurgiu - Giurgiu ; Piteste ( lol, if you translate in english means hide ) - Pitesti; Trajan - Traian ; Jazzy ( i don't like the name )-Iasi ; Smala -Sinaia (near Targoviste if you don't find ) Carancebes - Caransebes . This is want i had to tell. If i will fing other mistakes i will tell you. In Hungary you used German region names instead of the Hungarian names: Steinamanger --> Szombathely
and a couple others i don't know the Hungarian versions of.

And some spelling mistakes too: Dedrecen --> Debrecen

I think you should keep the Nazi German flag. Many folk here are named Adolf Hitler; the hammer and sickle flag is banned in Hungary, probably the American flag is banned in the Levant. You'll end up offending somebody at some point, just go through with it for historical accuracy. Also, Blous, I think that was intentional. All Russian names and Estonian names are in German, too.

Added some Soviet territories to show just how far the map will go. As of right now, it will go up and slightly past the Urals. However, there isn't much there besides industry, so once I map out those I'll basically just use the Siberian Rail line to reconnect the cluster back to Western Russia.
