Currently all members of the EU, except Denmark and the UK, are required to change their currency over to the euro once they have met a set of economic targets. However, there is a loop hole that allows states not to join because 1 of these requirements is 2 years membership of ERM II and there is no part of any treaty that requires members of the EU to join ERM II.

Back in 2003, Sweden held a referendum on change its currency over to the euro and the Swedish voted no. As a result of this, their government didn't take them into ERM II and they still haven't changed their currency to the euro to this day, despite meeting all economic targets, bar 2 years membership of ERM II. After the referendum, the European Commission said they would allow the democratic wishes of Sweden to be respected this time, but they would not accept any other attempts from anyone at a "euro-dodging referendum".

I think the European Commission were bluffing to scare other members out of voting on the euro. If the Czechs do vote no, 1 of 2 things will happen. The European Commission will have to admit that it was a bluff, or the European Commission, all of whom are unelected, will have to over rule the democratic will of the Czechs.

The Euro currency is not working because too many different states are currently using it, the process of joining nations to the Eurozone has to be modified.
the European Union allowed unstable and economically weak nations to enter the EU (example: during 2004, 10 states with 80 million inhabitants joined the EU!), this should have been done little by little, state by state, we cannot help that much nations of the old communist block entering the Eurozone at the same time, the process worked for Ireland, Greece, Spain or Portugal in the 80s because they did not joined the EU silmutaneously.
Germany is currently pledging for reforming the Euro Zone and split it into at least 2 zones, leaving the weakest states to another Eurozone as they are real burdens to stronger economies.

The fact that the Czech Republic is against the Euro is a good thing, since we do not want another potential burden, it would be also nice if the Czech Republic and any current anti-european states (talking about Hungary, Poland) gave back those billions of euros that Germany, France etc kindly gave to them through european funds to build their economy. You are right about the Czech Republic their economy those recent past years showed a good economic growth, with a GDP which is already 85% of the EU average.

Those regions in red are receiving financial founds through regional policy projects in less developed regions. They are supported by three European funds: the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF), the European Social Fund (ESF) and the Cohesion Fund.
As you can see the Czech Republic despite having the best eastern economy is massively receiving European funds as only the Region of Prague is amongst the most developped regions.

I would not say "developed" but rather mean GDP, as Estonia is one of the best countries to live in, Wales and Cornwall certainly are not bad either.

Juq you are off topic, as of course I meant "developed" economically speaking, as we are discussing about european funds and money given to those regions.
And yeah I was quite surprised actually to see some parts of Britain such as Cornwall or Wales included in the least developed regions. But it seems wealth is not adequately shared amongst the UK's regions, with London concentrating the wealth, and peripheral regions not having enough money.

First of all to clarify I am Czech, but I live in switzerland. And by billions of Euros I thought you meant the massive aid after World War II. Also I didn't know about the aid programs. But even if they don't adopt the Euro, it's not that they hate Europe, which they don't, it's just the Euro declined in recent years and because of greece they don't want to join. Also the west kind of owes the money, because if they stayed by the alliances, Czech would have been indepedent and the economy would be on par with the west. Admittedly I don't keep up heavily with European politics, but from what I know this isn't much of a surprise. There's a large number of other EU countries that have refused to use the Euro, even some big ones like U.K and Sweden. The EU is either unwilling or unable to force countries that should have the Euro to make the switch, so this is probably something that will just keep happening.

Good or bad? Well, depends on if you think the Czech Republic would improve or lower the overall value.

To be honest, I prefer the Tories. UKIP are a bunch of blithering idiots. They have good policies, but the inability to enforce them. A Brexit is inevitable. UKIP came second in every Labour-held seat in the North of England. The SNP are a bunch of Euro-loving eco-maniacs. Who cares if the world's warming up? I don't see the problem. Maybe Britain'll be a nicer, less miserable place with a climate similar to Gibraltar?
